Nate came to stop when he realised that there was someone else in the room.
"Caitlyn." He let out kind of a strangled sound, "I didn't think you'd be back yet...I, eh, I forgot my clothes." He waved his hand toward the pile of suitcases on his bed and made his way over to root out some clothes.
Caitlyn didn't know which one of them were blushing the most.
"Oh yeah, eh, don't worry about it." Caitlyn said as she quickly tore her eyes away from his (rather defined) chest and went about rearranging her clothes on her bed again and let the poor guy grab his clothes and retreat to the bathroom in peace.
She let out the breath she was holding when the door clicked close behind him and fell back against her pillows. She covered her mouth with her hand and stifled a giggle. A giggle, because seventeen year old Caitlyn would have definitely appreciated the view of Nate walking around her without a shirt on.
Not that twenty four year old Caitlyn thought it was that bad either.
But she didn't need thoughts like that at a time like this. Between needing to find a new direction for her life, one of her ex-boyfriend's other girlfriends living near her and Brown's warning, she didn't need to be thinking about Nate shirtless. At all.
That didn't mean that pushing it from her mind was an easy thing to do. Especially when the only other thing she could think of was his eyes searching for hers from the stage.
Nate reappeared a view minutes later, fully dressed, though his hair was still damp, causing it to curl even more. "So we should probably timetable our showers then huh?" He grinned.
"Or just bring our clothes with us." She countered with a smile.
He laughed, sitting back against the headboard of his bed. "Yeah, probably."
"How are your campers?" She asked, changing the conversation in consideration for the red that still lingered on his cheeks.
"Good." He nodded. "It's the first summer for two of them. But I think they were settling in okay."
"Well, hey, point them out to me and I'll keep an eye on them if I'm supervising their practices." She offered.
"I will. Thanks."
She sighed, deciding to just let it go and open up the can of worms. "It should be me thanking you." She said. "For letting me stay with you. And not asking all the questions I was afraid of getting." She pushed the clutter from her bed and sat back against the wall, pulling her knees to her chest.
"I really don't mind." He said, before turning his head to look over at her. "And I didn't want to pester you...you deserve your privacy. Everyone does." He gave a half shrug. And he knew what he was talking about, she thought, most of the details of his life were available at the touch of a button.
"Nobody knows it all. What's got me here, heck, nobody really knows I'm here." She admitted, tipping her head back against the wall.
"You don't have to tell me." He said, his voice cutting through the heavy silence that her words had caused to fall all around them. "But..."
"There's always a but..." She smiled.
"I just..." He hesitated as if choosing his words carefully, "I've kept things bottled up before and I don't think it's ever really a good idea. And it might help to get it all out, and start this summer on a clean slate."
She tossed his words around in her mind. And she knew he was right. But it was still hard. "Since when did Nate Gray get so smart?"
"Since when I stopped spending my summers with you." He teased before huffing from the impact of getting hit with a pillow that she hurled across the small space toward him. He let out a laugh as he hugged the pillow to his chest. A laugh that shook his shoulders and made his eyes light up. His eyes were missing that a lot lately, she mused, it was like something had drained some of the light from them. Not that she was paying his eyes that much attention.
