"It's the thought that counts." She told him, but her own words tasted bitter in her mouth.

They changed the subject after ordering desert and chatted about nothing in particular.

Nate was half way through his ice-cream sundae when Caitlyn made some joke about one of their summers together and he broke into laughter.

She joined him before she noticed some of his ice-cream had found its way onto his cheek.

"Oh, you've got some ice cream there..." She points to her own face and he mimics her actions, missing it by a mile.

"Did I get it?"

"No, here." She leans across the table and wiped it off with her thumb, trying to ignore the slight stubble on his jaw line and the sensation of his skin under her touch.

She retracted her hand as if she had been shocked.

They paid their bill and left a tip, though Jackie nearly refused payment, her favourite customer and his girlfriend shouldn't have to pay here, was her exact argument, but she relented on the condition that they call again soon.

They figured that they didn't have anywhere else to be so they wandering along to the charity shop on the mall strip.

"Hey we could design your new image." He told her as he knocked his shoulder off hers.

"So you are the secret designer in the band then huh?" She teased as they opened the door and wandered around.

Most of the clothes looked like they hadn't seen the light of day since the eighties, and Caitlyn and Nate had a few laughs at the different styles of jackets and sunglasses and hats. The place was a treasure trove, clothes, bags, musical memorabilia, homeware goods, jewellery and random ornaments crowded the small space.

The woman behind the counter didn't give much more than a glance in their direction when the door opened. So they hunted around to their hearts contentment.

"Nate, look." She pointed to where there was a few signed framed posters of Connect Three lined up on a shelf. "We should get them for the cabin."

"Ha ha." He rolled his eyes, "When you release music I'll be the first person to gather all your memorabilia and then tease you about it." He informed her before disappearing behind a rack of winter jackets.

It took her breath away, that he believed in it so easily. That it could such a simple concept in his mind. That she was a good artist and would just be successful.

She shook her head and followed him around to where there was a bunch of CDs and vinyl's stacked.

"This place is awesome." He told her, picking out a few CDs to buy.

"That one's a blank CD." She commented, catching a glance of one of the CDs in his hand.

"Yeah." He confirmed, "For your recordings."

The way he said it made it all seem like an actual possibility. And that made nervous butterflies erupt in her stomach. Because what if she failed? Again?

But, she reminded herself, glancing over at Nate, at least she would have one fan.

She drifted over to where there was some jewellery and scarfs and an assortment of accessories lying in discount bins. She was sorting through them, wondering about the history behind it all when she came across a necklace with an inscription on the back of the round pendant.

I've loved you always and I'll love you forever.

"What you looking at?" Nate appeared at her shoulder.
