Dana. Threatened by her? Caitlyn couldn't quite wrap her head around it.
She wasn't the one who had swept Nate away in a summer romance, Caitlyn was just his friend from childhood.
How could she be a threat?
Sure, Caitlyn thought as she wandered back the familiar path, she had been hard to contact after high school. She had made sure of it. She didn't want her life revolving around her unrequited crush on her best friend. So she had put some serious distance between herself and Nate.
But Dana was crazy for being jealous of her.
Nate chose Dana. Nate never as much as looked at Caitlyn the way he looked at Dana.
She knew now that he had had a crush on her when they were kids but it had obviously curled up and died long before Dana came along.
She welcomed the soft light coming from her cabin windows in the dark, and made her way up the steps and in the door. Her head may be racing with conflicting and confusing thoughts but if there was one thing that she knew for sure? That Nate was with her and they had the next few weeks to just be Nate and Caitlyn, and that was a comfort.
"Hey." Nate's mouth formed a half smile and she immediately chastised herself for paying too much attention to his mouth.
"Hey." She said, taking a seat on her bed.
"Peggy get to her cabin okay?"
"Yeah." Caitlyn bobbed her head up and down, wondering how to not mention what she and Peggy had been chatting about.
"How are you feeling?" She broached as she picked up her guitar, just to have something to distract herself.
"Better. Thank you. Peggy is going to send me on lots of tips on how to create a proper social media brand. She makes much more sense than our PR team. The sooner Jason gets his label going the better."
He huffed, placing his phone upside down on his locker, "I'm going to go for a run. I think I need to clear my head." He said before rummaging in his locker, and pulling out a running vest. Caitlyn had never focused on chords as much as when she was sitting trying not to glance toward a Nate who took off his top heading toward the bathroom to change into his running gear.
She sighed to herself, she was is big trouble.
As soon as Nate left the cabin, after twice asking her if she was okay with him going running when she couldn't and having to convince him that it was fine, Caitlyn dived for her cell phone.
It took three rings for Mitchie to answer.
"Hey Caitlyn..."
"I need help." Caitlyn forwent a proper greeting to get straight to the point.
"Are you okay? Is Nate okay?"
"That's the problem Mitchie." She said as she fell back onto her bed. "Me and Nate. What are we doing?"
"...You two are doing something?" Mitchie suddenly sounded a lot more interested in the direction of the conversation.
"No!" Caitlyn blushed, "It's just...how did I think that this was going to be okay? He's my best friend. But now I'm sharing a cabin with the guy who also broke my heart years ago and now..."
"Now what?"
"I don't know Mitchie, I'm scared of what I might be feeling towards him again."
"Okay. Well it's not ideal I guess? But hey, Nate's a good guy, and currently single and you trust each other."
