The band that was playing, the group that opened for the last Connect 3 world tour, changed tempo and started playing a fast upbeat song that made the dance floor of couples into a mass of jumping and dancing bodies in the space of a few seconds.
There would be no jumping around and dancing for Caitlyn. As everyone danced around them, singing along and moving around, Nate kept a hand on her lower back to balance her among the crowd. She managed to somehow bop around on the spot, hoping she didn't look too ridiculous to Nate.
But at the same time telling herself that it didn't matter.
Jason found them in the crowd, "You guys having a good time?"
"Yeah, it's great." She half shouted over the music.
"The couple of the moment seem to like their party." He nodded in the direction of Mitchie and Shane who were still slow dancing like the music had never changed. Foreheads pressed together, having their own conversation in their own little bubble. "I'm really happy for you two." He said, placing a hand on Caitlyn's arm and smiling at Nate. Saying it like their relationship was something he had been waiting for, like it was inevitable.
He was gone before she could correct him.
She didn't know if it was a burse or a blessing because Nate kept his promise, he didn't leave her side. He followed her to the bar, waited outside the bathroom for her, always had his hands somehow in contact with her when they were chatting to family and friends.
Holding her hand, hand on her knee, arm around her shoulder, even going to the point of playing with her hair when Ben was having a break and standing around the stage and was looking at them.
And the worst thing?
Yes it felt odd, yes it felt like a million butterflies were going to war in her stomach.
But it felt like the most natural thing in the world.
The time passed quickly with her thoughts being taken up by Nate and Mitchie and Shane got to cut their cake. And of course Brown insisted on a mandatory Camp Rock reunion picture. He remained adamant that he could take the rights of being the reason the two of them got together. What would they have been had Camp Rock not been in existence.
Caitlyn laughed along as Mitchie pointed out it was her Mom's job that had allowed her to go to camp but then Jason jumped in saying that it was all Shane's fault, if he hadn't gone all diva on them they wouldn't have had to send him back.
They somehow managed to get a picture during all the back and forth.
"So what's with the reunion at Camp?" Barron asked cornering Caitlyn and Nate.
"Yeah, did our invite get lost in the post or something?" Sandor added with a grin.
"It's not...it wasn't an official thing..." Caitlyn argued, looking at Nate, "We just happened to end up back in Camp together. You guys can call anytime."
"Oh we'll be there." Barron high fived Sandor.
"Let Brown know to expect trouble."
"But you know, we actually have to leave. So we'll have to say goodbye..."
"Or you know you could always say..."
"No!" Caitlyn groaned with a smile and cut her friend off. "Every time! You guys do this every time!"
"It's tradition!" Sandor laughed.
If they didn't incorporate it into a flashmob, or sing karaoke or caption every picture with their Final Jam song then it never was a proper reunion.
