Chapter 4

*Reader's POV*

The year and a half of training was brutal but it gave us a brief peace from the instructor's shouting. Then one evening that all changed when I was called out to the front. Everyone watched in silence as I walked forward. But their startled expressions turned to confusion when I stood at his side rather than in front of him. I pushed the hair out of my face and behind my ear to reveal a long jagged scar down the side of my face. Shadis drew their attention away from it by shouting "This is my Second in Command L/N. She was placed in your squad to observe and record. Those recorded will follow her for your instructions."

I casually handed Shadis a few papers then crossed my arms as he shouted "Those placed in her training squad are Armin Arlert, Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover, Jean Kirstein, Mikasa Ackerman, Eren Yeager, and Annie Leonhurt." I eyed the Cadet's standing in front of me and nodded towards the woods. Then I turned my back to them and started walking. Once we reached the clearing near the Titan dummies Jean Snorted and said "You brought us here to train on the dummies? News flash we're already doing this."

I gave him a hard look then clicked my heels and straightened my back and to everyone's surprise spoke in a cold authoritative voice "No Kirstein, I brought you here because out of all the other Cadet's I see the most potential in you and the others here before me." When he opened his mouth I added "Given that in your current state, you're all pathetic. Weak in the area's that you should be strong. You are under my instruction so that we can change that. If you do not believe that I can make you stronger and better soldiers you can leave now."

Jean scoffed and turned to leave when I coldly said "Coward." He stopped and faced me with an angry expression and demanded "What did you say?" I stood straight and tall as I answered "I called you a coward Kirstein. You have talent and yet you do nothing but run away. If you have a problem, face me like a man. If you can't then you can leave, because I obviously miscalculated the finer points in your personality." He bolted in a fit of anger and I dodged his right hook and said "Weak." Because of the unused momentum from his punch made him topple forward, I used to my advantage by planting my boot on his butt and sent him face forward into a tree.

He panted heavily and pushed off trying to hurt me. I slipped underneath his arms and head-butted him in the chest sending him stumbling back. "Useless" I spoke and he once again tried to land a hit on me. I made a small circle with my footing then went straight down drawing a line which placed me close to the ground as he trued to roundhouse kick me. I bounced back into position and once again dodged his blows. Then when I had my opening roundhouse kicked him in the face sending him sprawling on his face. When he trued to push himself up I placed my foot on his back forcing him back down and said "Defenseless. Nothing but dirt on the bottom of my boot."

Removing my foot I turned to face the other and said "Use your head, not your emotions. Look around at the other's beside you. I picked you all for a reason; my training is more advanced then Shadis's. Yet I believe that each and every one of you can handle my standards. If you plan on joining another branch forget it while under my instruction. I will call your names and you will stand next to your partners. Annie, and Mikasa. Bertolt and Eren. Reiner you will be partnered up with Armin and Jean. Now look at your partners, consider yourselves married, you will eat together, sleep together and train together."

I paused as they all grouped together then continued "You do not leave your partner's side except during hand to hand combat since you need to adapt to other's strengths and weaknesses. Everything I teach you, you have 2 months to improve. If I do not see any improvements immediately I will tack on more hours. As it stands you will do Shadis's training as well as mine. Because of this my training starts at first light and ends when his begins, as well as an hour after lights out and ends 3 hours later. If you are late you and your partner will train an extra hour per minute. Am I clear?!"

All of them stood straight and gave me a salute except Kirstein. I got up in his face and demanded "Do we have a problem Kirstein?" He narrowed his eyes as he gave me a salute and said "No ma'am." "Good, my first lesson begins tonight after rations. Enjoy your supper Cadets you are dismissed" I said and watched them walk away. I followed after a few moments and collected my food as well.
