Chapter 24

~*Time skip 1 week later*~

I sat eating my rations with my squad when the doors burst open reveling Nile Dok and a few MP's. "Where is Squad Leader L/N?" Nile demanded. I wiped my mouth and stood "I'm right here." "You're to be taken into custody until your trial" he said loudly. I walked towards him holding out my wrists when Levi demanded "Trial for what? She hasn't done anything." "Have you forgotten that Miss L/N is a slave? Commander Smith was the one who purchased her contract. Since Smith is deceased she must have a new trial. This could have been prevented if he had stated that he wanted her free in case he died, but Smith didn't" Nile said

Once more manacles were clamped around my wrists and a collar around my throat. No one said a word as I was lead towards the door. Suddenly a familiar voice said "I promise we'll find a way to get you back Brat." I looked over my shoulder to see Levi standing as everyone looked at him with shocked expressions. Our eyes met and in that brief moment I knew that he meant what he said. I surprised him by looking away first and said "Its better this way, just let it go. Everything that's happened is the way it should be, so don't even bother trying it's no use. Even Humanities Strongest can't fight fate and win. I'll always end up in chains and that won't change until the day I'm completely free. At the end of the day there are other things out there that are far worse than the chains that bind me."

Nile backhanded me the moment I finished speaking, and nearly everyone stood up in protest. I stood straight meeting Nile's eyes as blood ran down my chin. "I may be already broken, but that doesn't mean I can't break you" I said softly my voice cold and harsh even to my own ears. "You'll be way beyond broken when I'm done with you, count on it" he sneered as he yanked me out the door.

Once again I was put into a cell, but this time they gave me civilian clothes to change into. Nile had rubbed his hands and said "Wouldn't want your uniform all dirty for your trial now would we? Now we only have a limited time together to play all the games we want with you, but if you tell me where the children are we can skip all this unpleasantness." "If I die at your hands so be it, but I won't tell you anything." I said and then heard the crack of the whip. "Oh you'll eventually tell me what I want to know" He laughed and gave the signal. And soon I felt the familiar bite of the whip.

~*1 week later*~

*3rd Person POV*

Everyone stood in front of the judge all shouting at once. When the judge raised a hand the room fell silent. "Now it states here that Commander Erwin Smith is deceased is that correct?" the judge asked. "Yes Sir" Hange said. "And you claim that Nile Dok the Commander of the MP's came in and removed Miss L/N without any documents to state the reason for his arrest?" he asked. "Yes Sir" Hange said softly. The judge looked at Nile and asked "And why did you take the woman?" "I found no evidence claiming that the deceased Commander Smith said he wanted L/N free upon his death" Nile answered.

"We searched though Commander Smith's things Sir and found several letters post marked to and from the Court stating his intentions" Hange said. "Bring it forward" he said and Hange presented it to him. The judge read the letters and released a low whistle and said "This letter states that Miss L/N is Commander Erwin's long lost daughter and that he requested the knowledge on how to properly free her from their contract. To which my court responded with instructions on what to do." "Yes everyone under his command knew of their relationship" Hange said.

Nile smiled and said "My informant told me that Miss L/N refused to acknowledge their blood bond and instead wanted nothing to do with the deceased." "And your informant was?" demanded Levi. "Petra Ral" Nile answered. "Is Petra Ral available to the Court?" asked the judge. "No Sir, she was killed by the female Titan after she tried to kill Miss L/N" Hange said. "Now where is the woman in question?" asked the judge. "Because she is still a slave Miss L/N is not required to be present" Nile stated.

"I would like her here. I admire Miss L/N's strength and courage. Courage that she displayed while protecting humanity. I expect to see her face when I give the verdict on her fate" said the judge. Nile turned to a few MP's and said "Bring her." "But Sir" began one. "Now" he ordered. Soon after the order a figure was tossed into the room on the floor. The figure slowly stood revealing the small shape of a woman.
