Chapter 22

*Reader's POV*

-*flashback*-

"A man with red hair was the first thing I saw. But the expression on his face wasn't kind. He hit me and I fell. His voice cold and harsh as he said "I own you, bought you from a nurse down on her luck." He kicked me until my little body hurt, then he grabbed my hair and dragged me towards the fire. Where he branded me and said "Now if you want to live you'll have to earn your way. Soon I got older and he said "Your of no use to me so I'm selling you. But first I'm going to mark you so that you'll forever remember me." As I got older I soon realized that a Master couldn't own a slave for more than 5 years unless the Master was going to free the slave."

"With other Master's the beatings got worse, and as my body finally began to develop the punishments changed. I was striped bare in front of my Master who would eye my budding body with a dark look and greedy hands. But nothing went farther than that my value being higher if I was pure and untouched. I came back from Wall Maria proud of my new title and told my Master thinking he'd be pleased only to be whipped until I passed out, and things got much worse. Then I was sold a year later. My last master was cruel and harsh, so very unforgiving. I was made to wear skimpy tight outfits that revealed more than it covered as I served him and his friends."

"Taking my beatings with a heavy soul. By the 5th year I knew that I was going to be sold to a dark haired red eyed stranger. One whose hands in the dark were the greediest of them all. When I received his brand I ran knowing that death on the streets would be preferable to what I'd have to endure by his wandering hands. Only I never got very far. A group of MP's saw me walking in the dark. They offered to help me, and took me to an ally. I knew that that they had realized who I was and knew that they would hurt me and I fought back only that didn't last long either as they all started to fight back."

"When they were done one grabbed a bottle cutting deep into the left side of my face. He planted a kiss on the mark telling me that he'd forever be able to find me and remember just how nice and sweet I was. Before he left with the others he told me that his name was Nile Dok and that he'd be seeing me soon. I laid there in the trash broken, bleeding and my heart so heavy that I knew that I wouldn't survive. And for the first time in my life since I received my first brand I cried. It was my sobbing that attracted Dr. Yeager. My tears leading him to where I was and he carefully picked me up.?

"He told me stories to keep me from sleeping, told me about his newborn son and how happy he was. He looked into my eyes and said "I want you to promise you'll protect him and my family if anything happens to me." I nodded before he placed me in another's arms and Shadis's face was the last thing I saw before I finally succumbed to the blackness around me. Time seemed to fast forward over the next few years and soon I saw myself in Erwin's office, He told me everything he'd done trying to find me an asked if he could finally make a stand as my father. I refused and told him that I was too old to have another father figure but I needed a friend instead."

-*Flashback end*-

I opened my eyes and shot up my heart pumping wildly. For a moment my vision was blurring but I heard noises. They were so loud that they hurt my ears and I started to cover them when I realized that I could hear again. Suddenly I felt hands push me back down. I looked up to see Levi giving me a cold glare. "Lay down Brat. It's a miracle that you survive the infection as well as made it back here without drawing the Titan's attention" he demanded coldly. "But Annie's the female Titan!" I exclaimed and started fighting in his grip.

"Yes we already know that, but how did you when you weren't even here?" he asked indifferently as he continued to hold me down. "Her eyes when she caught me. It was her eyes. Now let me go" I demanded. "Not until Commander Zoe says your healed and she hasn't given the order" he said coldly. I stopped fighting and said "Commander Zoe?" "Yes, as much as it pains me to say it. Shitty Glasses took Erwin's place when he died rescuing you. We discovered the female Titan's identity and planned an attack. But then you showed up just as Annie was climbing the wall. You were going to be crushed but Erwin pushed you out of the way. He didn't make it out in time. We found you among the rubble after Annie was captured. You were high with fever and the wound you had was infected. Not everyone thought you'd make a complete recovery, let alone your memory if you did" he spoke as he pushed me back onto the bed.

I was in shock and did as he demanded. He removed his hands and silence filled the air between us. "Why are you here?" I asked softly. "I wanted to know if you remembered what happened" he said . "I made it ot the others but only in time to save Petra. But I got wounded in the collision between Annie and her. I was on a branch getting ready to attack when I fell. The last thing I saw was Annies Titan face as she caught me" I answered. "Do you remember how you got here?" he asked. "I remember being carried but I don't remember much else" I said.

He eyed me and said "The Brats told me that Ral was the one who wounded you, and the the one who pushed you. Is that true?" I closed my mouth and met his gaze. I said nothing and he said "Your Squad is ancious to see you Brat." I nodded and he left. When he was gone my room was suddenly overflowing with people. I tried to keep up with all the questions, but soon had to give up and to cork it or I'd boo them out. I told them what I knew and that I had my hearing back. When they were satisfied with their answers they left making me promise to continue their training when I got better.
