*3rd Person POV*
Shadis looked at Commander Erwin and Squad Leader Hange standing in his office. "What brings you here to my office Commander?" he asked. "There was an incident in town several weeks ago" Erwin began. "And this had to do with my Cadet's?" Shadis asked. "No, we would like to stay here so that we can investigate the incident fully" Erwin replied. Shadis nodded and said "This could b arranged however I request that you leave a few of my Cadet's alone." "And why is that?" Erwin asked calmly. "A few of the Cadet's are receiving additional training from my Second in Command" Shadis answered.
Commander Erwin raised a bushy brow and asked "When did you get a Second?" "Five years ago Commander. She's been invaluable with her select groups. Groups that she hand picks herself" Shadis replied. "The mute?!" asked Hange. Shadis turned his gaze to the woman standing next to the Commander and said "I assume by your question you were here when I revealed her true intention?" Both of them nodded and Shadis said "She's not a mute; she speaks only when she needs too. And damn can she speak when she has a mind too. So when I say she'll teach those Cadets, make no mistake they'll come back as soldiers."
"What are her methods?" asked the Commander. Shadis sat back and said "I'm betting that if their training is anything like hers, they're harsh and rough. Only the strong can make it through her training. She can be brutal, as brutal as Captain Levi at times. Logic and reason are her friends. She will break them down, push them past their limits and then rebuild them into the perfect soldiers." "What else?" asked the Commander. "Her arsenal consists of humiliation, insults, as well as large doses of intimidation on ones she thinks are at the edge. She also possess a rare ability to know what buttons to push and how far. Even though her training is brutal those under her command eventually gain great respect for her" Shadis answered.
"Would we be allowed to watch her work?" asked the Commander. Shadis shook his head and said "Her methods are her own, you would have to ask her rather than me. But if you don't and she finds out she'll shut down the training until you leave. This is something I cannot afford to let happen. Right now I believe that she's in the mess hall, and if not there she's near the Titan dummies waiting for her trainees to show."
*Reader's POV*
As I waited for my squad to show up I mentally ticked off the time. Suddenly a woman burst through the trees and ran straight at me. I stepped to the side and she face planted a tree and slid down towards its roots. Immediately she bounce back up and I only had time to notice her dark brown hair put in a high ponytail with pointed bangs before she rushed towards me again and I did the same thing as before, only this time I tripped her and placed my boot on her back to keep her on the ground and asked "Who are you and what do you want?" Excitedly she began to blather about a couple of Titan's she was keeping as pets.
I glared down at her and put more pressure on her back which halted her speech enough for me to say "You have 3 minutes to tell me who you are and why you're here before I kick you in the ribs." She gave me an excited smile and said "My name's Hange Zoe, I arrived with Commander Erwin Smith. I heard about your training methods and wanted to know if I could watch you." "Your not here to evaluate my methods are you?" I asked. She shook her head and said "There was an incident in town a few weeks ago." "And why would a Commander and one of his Squad Leader's be at the camp?" I asked as I raised a brow. "We're just bunking here until the incident is cleared up" she babbled as she pushed up her glasses. "And this incident is?" I asked.
She shrugged and said "Can't tell you. Now can I watch you while you train the recruits?" "Since your not here to evaluate my methods you can hide in one of the bushes and watch from there. The moment you draw attention to yourself Zoe, I'll personally escort you to your cabin to make sure you don't return. Do I make myself clear?" I answered. She nodded enthusiastically and when I removed my foot she bolted towards the bushes. The moment I faced the other direction I noticed that All 3 groups were on their way, and I internally smiled at the fact that they were indeed going to make it on time.
The minute they arrived the all gave me a salute. I gave each one of them a nod and said "Congratulations on arriving on time. The targets before you are to improve your hand and eye coordination." Jean snorted with crossed arms and said "And this will help us how? We don't use a bow and arrows or throwing knives to fight Titans." "What an excellent question Kirstein" I said and when he gave me a smug look I said "Drop and give me 30 pushups. You will learn to respect your authority." Once he dropped down I paced in front of the others and said "Kirstein indeed asked an excellent question, but I will not tolerated being questioned. When you finally decide what branch, you will be expected to give and receive orders. You will not be able to question your Commanding Officer, so for instance if I said a baboon's ass is blue, you will be expected to say that the baboon's ass is blue even if it's red."
I stopped and coldly demanded "What are the weaknesses of a Titan?" Jean paused in his pushups and said "The back of the neck obviously." My eyes narrowed as I said "Pride will be your downfall Kirstein, add 30 more pushups to what you have left." Suddenly I heard a soft voice say "But Jean's right ma'am." I looked towards Armin and said "I asked for their weaknesses Arlert, not what kills them." "Then that would be their eyes and ankles" he said carefully meeting my gaze. I nodded and said "Exactly, timing is important so if you needed to distract a Titan you have a limited time window. This window will fade if you do not distract a Titan quickly and effectively. Yes they can regenerate these parts but with the brief loss of their eyes and legs is the golden opportunity to kill them quickly, since their energy will be more focused on recovering what they lost."
I waved a hand towards the weapons and said "The bow and arrows as well as the throwing knives will hone your skills so that when you attack something like their eyes, you do it in a single swipe of a blade which will save time and ultimately your life and the lives of countless others around you." I motioned them to follow me and I took them to another spot where a pile of logs and rocks rested. I motioned towards the piles and said "The logs and rocks in front of you are to improve your balance. You may have passed the balancing cables but this is slightly more advanced. If you catch a fallen comrade you will need to learn how to balance the extra weight so that your cables don't snap before you get to safety. Balancing on something as unstable as a log with various sized stones in each hand, on each knee and on your head, strengthens your mind and body's sense of balance."
I nodded towards the pile of various sized weights and said "The weights will be used to strengthen your endurance as well as your body. This method will allow you to learn your body's limits, as well as to over come them. A weight will be tied to each arm and leg, then you'll run 6 laps. The stronger your endurance the faster you'll be, each of you will need to be faster than you currently are. The faster you kill a Titan means the more lives saved and the better you'll be able to save your own lives and limbs. This training also helps you use as little gas as possible per kill. Now the catch to this training is that I will create the groups, this is also a timed training and each member of your team must complete each lap at the same time. This teaches you team work, as well as how to work and depend on other's who you've never worked with before. We'll have Annie, Eren and Jean in one group and the in the other group we have Mikasa, Reiner, and Bertolt. Armin will bounce between the two groups, completing 3 laps with each group "
Then I pointed towards a small box and said "Losing one sense strengthens the others you have. There will be times when you will need the other senses your body had other than sight and sound. You need to feel the vibrations, to taste the difference in the air, and to learn the different smells around you. For example if you attack a titian and you get slapped around a bit and you briefly lose you sight or sound you'll need to depend on the other senses you have left to stay alive. Blindfold's and earmuffs are there to help you over come these losses." Eren gave me a quizzical look and when I nodded towards him he asked "How is wearing a blindfold or earmuffs advanced training?"
My answering smile made everyone glance at me nervously and I said "I'm glad you asked Yeager. It's advanced training when I'm the one that can see when you can't. You'll each receive a stick to ward off my own attack. Too slow and you get hit and wake up in the morning with bruises. Now only a single team can be at each exercise. At the end of every hour each team will switch so that each team will go through all the exercises. Now because I can tell that no one will willingly try me after Kirstein's embarrassing display earlier. I've decided that our endurance exercise will be done every other night."
The 3 teams split and I spent the next 3 hours teaching my Cadet's about losing ones senses. When training was over I watched the Cadet's leave, when they were all gone I looked towards the bushes and with a nod I walked towards my own cabin.
