'Mai nahi jaa rahi hu.' Nandini said as she walked through the crowd of teenagers with Madhyam behind her.

'Hum jaa rahe hai.' She heard his hard voice over the music as he grabbed her upper arm in a tight grip. He pulled her around to face his storming eyes.

'Hum jaa rahe hai isse pehle mai tumhe uss gadhe ki bahon me dekhu.' He said with his jaw clenched.

Nandini's jaw clenched at his words as she saw him with an angered face of her own.

'Ye mera best friend hai. I've known him all my life and I think I am allowed to dance with whoever I want!'

Without any warning, he pushed her into the wall behind her, causing a sharp pain in her spine.

'Dance?' He asked as he moved closer so that their faces were inches apart. The smell of alcohol in his breath was evident.

'Maddy you're hurting me.' She whispered softly with tears in her eyes.

His grip on her upper arms tightened causing a whimper to escape her lips, before his hands loosened. He sighed deeply and dropped his head on her shoulder.

'I'm sorry.' He said with his lips touching the line of her shoulder.

'You know na I get jealous jab mai kisi ko bhi tumhe aise dekhte hue dekhts hu.'

His voice was gentle now, almost pleading. It was the tone which had originally drawn Nandini to him, but it was getting harder to keep up with his mood swings now.

'You know I love you, haina?' He asked, his lips near her ear.

She nodded her head slightly, knowing it was the only way to satisfy him.

Warm hands gently gripped her waist from behind and she jumped as they brought her back from her thoughts. She turned to face Manik who had surprised expression on his face. He held his hands up in surrender.

'I'm sorry, mai tumhe darana nahi chahta tha.' He spoke apologetically.

She shook her head and gave him a warm smile.

'Dinner?'

He didn't smile back, assessing her face. For a moment it seemed he wanted to ask further but then didn't. He nodded with a small smile and took a seat on the table.

She joined him with false enthusiasm.

'Where the hell are we going like this?' She questioned herself.

'You did what?' Manik asked through clenched teeth with anger and surprise evident.

He heard his sister sigh from the other end of the phone.

'She asked me if we were free to meet her for dinner sometime and I said yes.' Mahi replied in a tone she often uses with Pihu while she is explaining something to the girl. But it did nothing to lessen his irritation.
