Chapter 12

'Kaha reh gae the tum dono?' Navya whispered as Nandini came to sit on her seat which was beside her and Manik sat beside Nandini.

'Wo kuch nahi call aagaya tha' Nandini made an excuse and faced the screen as the movie started, avoiding further questioning from Navya.

Despite Nandini being scared of horror movies, Nandini quite enjoyed herself. No, she didn't enjoy the movie, she enjoyed the company with her. She wasn't paying attention to 80% of the movie. She got to know what great fun it is to have a good group of friends as Tanu was the only one close to her.

It was now that Nandini understood why the boys had chosen last row for them. There was not a moment when they were quiet. They whispered among each other about the scenes and how could they make it better, according to them. Finding mistakes and cracking jokes on each and everything was how they watched movies.

During the interval, Manik went to bring ice creams for all of them. According to their wish, he brought chocolate cornetto for all of them and a butterscotch for Cabir as he knows Cabir's choice. But Cabir being Cabir, went for the chocolate cornetto but Manik didn't let him take it. Manik hated butterscotch. The others had already started their cones so exchanging was out of question. And there, a world war had begun.

After having enough of them, Navya stood up and scolded Cabir for being such a kid. And Manik could stop laughing.

During the whole time, Nandini didn't feel left out. It seemed that she knew all of them from ages. She had mingled with them very easily. It was after a long time that she had made friends.

The next day, It was 7:20 in the morning when Manik woke up with the alarm which was set for 6:30, snoozing the alarm again and again. Yes, Manik Malhotra waking up that early in the morning is a miracle, reason being, his assignment was incomplete which had to be submitted today.

Manik walked out of his room going towards the kitchen in a very sleepy state, yawning and rubbing his eyes. He thought to have a cup of coffee before working on the assignment.

He was about to enter the kitchen when he was forced to stop in his tracks due to the sight infront of him. Nandini was standing near the kitchen table, still in her cute night dress with her hair tied in a messy bun, earphones plugged into her ears, her feet tapping to the rhythm.

Anknon ko teri aadat hai
Tu dikhe na toh inhe shikayat hai

Bin chuye chu liye hai
Tune mujhko diye hai
Pyar ke ye tarane jaaniya

Ye Jo ab horaha hai
Kuch ajab horaha hai
Kya yehi pyaar ka hai ehsaas

Sau aasmano ko hummm hummm...

What caught his attention the most was her voice. She was singing along while preparing their breakfast. He was mesmerised by her voice. It seemed she herself didn't know how well she sings. He didn't know Nandini could sing.

Jane Kya hone laga
Mujhko nahi hai khabar
Kyu neend se door ye
Jaane lagi hai nazar

Chodo ye Saari baate
Ab mili hai jo raate
Inhe jaane na dena jaaniya

Nandini hadn't noticed Manik yet. He was standing quietly with his hands folded across his chest. A smile was lingering on his amused face. He was enjoying himself.

Ye jo ab horaha hai
Kuch ajab horaha hai
Kya yehi pyaar ka hai ehsaas

Sau aasma.....

Nandini jumped on her place and stopped herself as soon as she saw him standing near the door. She wasn't expecting him anytime soon. Suddenly she became tensed and self conscious, hoping he wouldn't have heard her singing. She put a few strands of hair behind her ear and removed the earphones.

'Ruk kyu gai... Kitna acha gaa rahi thi....please continue' Manik said with a smirk on his face. He knew this was a secret and wasn't meant to be shown.

'Aghh...aiyyappaa' Nandini murmured looking upwards stamping her feet with an irritated face.

This caused Manik to laugh. She is so cute he thought.

'To Kya mai ye roz miss karta hu?' Manik asked finally walking in and grabbing a bottle of water.

Nandini ignored him and continued doing her work.

'Aree seriously, tum bohot acha gaati ho...mujhe bataya kyu nahi tumne...you have an amazing voice'

'Tum itne jaldi kyu uth gae?' She asked grabbing two mugs of coffee and went to the dining table. Manik followed.

'Wo mujhe assignment submit karna hai aaj...and it's still incomplete' Manik said and took a sip from his mug.
Nandini nodded.

'Acha suno...tum kal shaamko Kya kar rahi ho?' Manik asked suddenly.

'Umm...kuch nahi cafe ke baad mai free hu...kyu?'

'Wo kal mera ek performance hai...as in fab 5 ka...kal shaamko 7:30 ko...to tum aaogi?' Manik asked hoping the answer to be positive.

'Umm...thik hai I'll come.' She said smilingly. She was feeling excited. It was the first time she will be watching any live performance. And it was Manik's performance.

'Great!'

And after talking for a while Manik headed to complete his assignment and Nandini went to get ready for the day.
