Her Life

Avishi Raj Rajput

I ran like my life depends on it. He will kill me if he finds out.

Okay.... I might be exaggerating because I can't run that fast given my heart condition.

I didn't realize I spent so much time near the lake and Jay must have gone to my room to wake me up. I love my brother, I really do but he can be very strict when it comes to my health. If he finds out I spent few hours outside in the chilly morning of Dehradun, he will give me a long lecture.

I was just half way back when my body started shivering from cold breeze. I am sure I have a red nose and flushed cheeks. Coming out here wearing pajama shorts is really a bad idea. Royal guards on duty greeted me on the way and I returned the gesture offering a smile. Thankfully the lake is located just ten minutes away from our mansion which is surrounded by woods.

We don't live in our palace unless for special occasions. It is mostly for tourists with its historical backdrop, but east corner wing is entirely for our stay. We live in this separate mansion within the palace boundaries. Security is very tight around us. Tourists and visitors are not allowed this side for our safety reasons

I stopped running when I reached the entrance. I crossed the threshold silently hoping I won't get caught by Jay. Dad is cool but Jay and mom are always worried about my health. Turning left under the staircase, I peeked into dining area. Jay's back was facing towards me and dad was sitting at head of the dining table.

He noticed me and I gave him a sheepish smile. He shook his head, amusement shining in his eyes. I tiptoed towards Jay and quickly grabbed toast from his plate. He jumped at my sudden action and grumbled at me.

"Avipie! Where the hell were you? I went to your room to wake you up but you were not there," he asked trying to be stern. I walked towards my dad to give a kiss on his cheek and sat beside Jay pulling the chair. I took a bite from the crunchy toast and looked at him innocently.

"Really? I woke up just now and came here," I lied keeping the toast bite to side of my inner cheek.

He narrowed his eyes and cupped my face with his giant hands booping my nose with his thumbs, "I know you hung out at lake, your red nose is the proof and now you are stealing my breakfast."

I pulled my face away to continue chewing. Swallowing I grinned at him, "So?"

"Ugh! How many times do I have to tell you it's not good for your health to be out in early hours that too when you know this place temperature," he scolded me clearly frustrated. I looked at dad but he zipped his mouth dramatically deciding not to side with me on this one.

"I wanted to watch the sunrise one last time. I am sorry but I did take the shawl," I said giving him puppy eyes which he tried to resist but gave in. He understood I am going miss my favorite lake spot. He took another plate and filled it with breakfast. Placing it in front of me he resumed eating by placing an arm around my shoulders.
