Shocks & Surprises
Avi Gupta
Have you ever heard something you longed to hear so much? How did you feel at the exact moment? Did you want to burst out in happiness? Did you pinch yourself to check if it's real?
Avikam looked exactly in such a situation right now. He was frozen in complete shock and I think it's the first time Pari called him papa. He turned towards us with an unbelievable look and stared at Pari. I let go of her hand she took a few steps towards him.
"Papa," She called out timidly this time.
He exhaled getting up and moved towards her in two strides. The uncertainty in his eyes vanished and he dropped on one knee in front of her. He embraced her tightly and I saw his eyes glistening in emotions as I was standing right behind Pari.
"What is illeg....mate?" she asked lowly and he leaned back to look at her.
"You don't worry about that babygirl, I will answer their stupid questions. You go with Avi okay?" he said softly but she stood there not moving.
The same reporter with tattoos spoke again, "If she wants to stay then maybe you should let her answer our questions Mr. Raichand."
Since when do they stress kids for the sake of interview? Sachit was supposed to be here, his presence would have warned them off. He had to leave last minute for emergency involving terrorists. But the look on Avikam guarantees that this woman is going to have some serious bad times in her life.
I moved towards Avikam, "Let's go angel. Your papa will handle this," I said placing my hand on her shoulder. Avikam squeezed my hand gently and nodded at me getting up.
"You said to fight back with my voice, I can do that Avipie. I am papa's brave girl remember?" she said grinning at me widely. Oh boy! This is not the time for her to take my advice.
'Are you sure about that?' my inner self asked me back. I looked at Avikam for help and he looked just the same. I thought of just picking her up and leaving from there.
"Are you really Mr. Raichand's daughter?" one of the reporters asked using the opportunity. Are the documents we provided not enough? Avikam opened his mouth to shut him but Pari beat him to it.
"Yes!" she yelled in glee, "He is my father," she stated proudly taking hold Avikam's hand. He looked down at her with softest expression I have ever seen on his face.
"What about your mother?" another asked.
"She is not alive anymore," Pari said sadly and Avikam lifted her in his arms protectively. "She is with god," she pointed up with her index finger, "he takes care of her and keeps her happy."
Her strength made us smile in delight.
"Are you an illegitimate child?" the obnoxious lady asked waiting for the right moment to step in. Pari frowned and Avikam clenched his jaw looking at the reporter.
"Do you really want to go there?" he asked calmly and his eyes were dangerously threatening.
The woman took a step back looking scared but she composed herself gulping and looked at Pari for an answer.
"What is that word means?" Pari asked her father.
He shook her head giving a small smile, "It's nothing babygirl," he said in tensed tone.
Pouting she looked back at Kushal who is suddenly interested in the texture of his coat. I took a step back to disappear from her sight but she turned towards me making me froze.
