Memories
Avikam Raichand
"My real name is not Avi Gupta its Avishi Raj Rajput!"
I stood there in shock in the elevator even after she walked out. My body recovered from what she said as mind kept repeating her words. I left from my building wandering around in my car.
"Avishi Raj Rajput!"
She is Avishi Raj Rajput!
Avishi!
My Ishu!
She is my Ishu, my spitfire. I got so many questions and confusions revolving within me. I couldn't believe she is my Ishu. I could have recognized her, how can I not? I told myself she is lying denying the facts. But I also know it's the truth and memories started flashing in my mind on tier own.
I was six years old when I first met her. I could remember every second we spent together vividly.
"Let's go Avikam," Mama said to me brushing my hair neatly once again.
She was taking me to Rajput palace. There was a celebration on the occasion of the princess birthday. They invited us because we were neighbors. Papa went to Mumbai to talk about business with dadaji. I was glad that he won't be here for one whole week. Mama and I won't be getting any beatings for next few days.
We reached earlier than other guests and Mrs. Jhanvi greeted my mama. She was a nice lady. She gave me some cookies and sent me with one of their maids. The maid took me upstairs and walked me to a room. The door had a pink name board that said 'Princess Ishi.' She opened the door and as I entered she left closing the door.
The room was in shades of rose color. There were stuffed toys all over. There was a white crib in the middle. I slowly stepped towards it when I heard bell sounds. I peeked inside standing on my toes curiously. How do babies look like?
As soon as I peeked in, my eyes were locked in her gaze. She stared back at me with her violet eyes. I never saw that color in eyes. Weird! She was so pretty. She stopped playing with her toy and stared at me with wide eyes. She had chubby cheeks with tiny nose and rose lips.
She was lying on her back wearing a white frock and drooling from the corner of her mouth. She lifted her hand towards me smiling and I leaned my head towards her more. She suddenly took my hair in her hand and stared laughing in her baby voice. Her sounds were cute but loud.
I tried to move her hand away but she tugged them tightly. "Ow!" I shouted and tried to remove her hand. But she hit me on my head with the toy. I rubbed the spot with one hand and tried to remove her hand from my hair with another hand. But she giggled continuously keeping her fist tight.
"Let my hair go, you are not a baby! You are a monster," I whined. I poked her nose and she looked angrily at me. I repeated it again and again and she finally let my hair go to rub her nose. I ran my hand through my hair and tried to rub the pain away. She threw her toy out of the crib and looked away from me.
Will she stop looking at me? I was sad. She slowly turned her small body on her belly and lifted her body on her knees and palms. She took the hold of crib grill and slowly stood up on her wobbly legs looking other side.
"Princess Ishi! I am here look at me," I said leaning towards her as far as I can on my toes. But she didn't look. I walked around and stood in front of her face. She slowly turned to other side wobbling. I again stopped in front of her. She repeated the same and we circled around for a while. She inside the crib and me outside the crib.
