Cherishing Moments
Avishi Raj Rajput
"Avipie! Orange or blue for the sky?" Pari asked me from the sofa she was sitting on, in my office cabin.
I looked at her pausing my work, "Well I am not an expert but if you are going for a sunset then little orange would be nice."
She smiled at me and went back to her painting. I noticed she got colours all over her dress and also on snoopy who remained persistent in disturbing her. My lips quirked up looking at his fur which no longer remained shining white. I hope she was using water colours otherwise it would be a nightmare to get those colours off his fur.
This is a routine for Pari and me. Either Ronit or Jay daily drop her in my cabin around three in the evening. She sits in the corner colouring or playing with clay dough. She doesn't disturb me while I work but when I have rare free time, I sit by her side and we both talk and do colouring together. I really suck at this but she appreciates me braiding her hair in different styles though.
"Do you think papa will like this?" she asked me with those round grey eyes.
"He will love it angel," I assured her and she gave me a toothy grin.
All she has to do is smile, her dad will be the proudest man alive.
I smiled remembering last Sunday when Avikam gave me gifts he brought from Japan. After they all left I opened the second gift box, alone in my room. It contained a gold chain with a beautiful pearl pendant paired with earrings. I have no doubt they are Akoya pearls famous in Japan. They have a super lustre and they give most simplistic yet elegant look.
I don't know why he didn't give the gift to me in front of everyone. Maybe he thought it was too cheesy or maybe he felt awkward or maybe he wanted me to open his gift alone. Anyway, I am grateful because I got to cherish it by myself. I haven't said anything to him about how I felt receiving such a beautiful gift.
With heavy work load there wasn't time for us to talk last few days. But every morning he greets me with a hug and a kiss to cheek. Sometimes we have an audience of other staff but Avikam doesn't even spare them a glance. After the last serious outburst he had, I don't try to fight him because I know if I push him any further, he would really do something drastic.
I decided to leave Mumbai by end of the month anyway. I am trying to treasure his affections until then. We are celebrating the success of Swadesh project's first phase next week. After the party I will inform my family and friends about my decision. I have my resignation ready with me, I just need to convince Avikam and I don't know how.
I thought of telling him that everyone is whispering around me since his announcement that I am his girlfriend, which is true and that brings up an uncomfortable atmosphere to work around, which is lie. I don't care about people talking but I can use it as an excuse for my resignation.
The door to my cabin opened breaking my thoughts and Avikam walked in looking handsome as always. I immediately felt guilty.
"What are my girls doing?" he asked looking at me and Pari. Usually, Avikam stays longer at office and Pari stays with him or goes home with Ronit. Its weekend and he has no further meetings today.
She jumped out of her seat and hugged him as he walked towards her.
He lifted her into his arms and kissed her forehead lovingly. His gaze went towards Snoopy and he looked at me with a raised eyebrow. I simply shrugged at him.
"Did we get a new puppy?" he asked Pari playfully.
She giggled at him shaking her head, "No papa, its Snoopy."
