Upon arriving back at the children's home Belle thanked her father and hugged him goodbye before he left. She had had a marvelous time despite not being able to see Luna, and getting a few dirty looks from other students. She had greeted everyone before heading up to her room to dump her bag and hide all of the gifts she had brought for the house for Christmas. She then took out a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans and headed to Enoch's room. He was the only person she hadn't seen when she had returned. Knocking on the door she waited for the usual grumble in response. "Go away." The boy groaned.
"It's me, Belle." The girl said through the door.
She heard a sigh and instead f the usual reply of the door opening and her being let in she heard another call of, "Go away!"
Her eyes widened, she had not expected that reply from the boy and she shook her head. "I got you something but, I'll just leave it out here. Sorry to bother you, Enoch." She said with a hint of sadness in her voice. Placing the box on the ground she turned around and trudged down the hall and down the stairs into the parlour where Millard and Victor were playing a game of exploding snap.
"You alright?" Victor asked as the girl took a seat beside him and watched him and the invisible boy play.
"Yeah, what about you?"Belle nodded, not taking her eyes off of the pile of cards.
"I'm good, but from the look on your face, it seems as if you aren't. I'd have thought you would be with Enoch, why are you down here?" Victor replied placing a card after Millard did.
"I wanted a change."She shrugged but Millard shook his head, his hat is the giveaway.
"No, you don't." He said. "Let me guess, Enoch was being a total arse towards you? I'm right aren't I?"
Belle nodded her head slightly and Victor turned to face her, "That's Enoch for you. I'm his best friend and he is always an arse towards me. You'll get used to it, somedays he is alright with you and the next he wants to slit your neck with a knife. It's just how he is. Although, I have never seen him act like this towards someone who is new. He still isn't a hundred percent good with Jake. I suspect that is why he is being like this to you."
"I don't think I understand, Victor."
"What he means is. You and he are pretty close, he being Enoch that is rare for a new person and him to be like that. Normally it takes at least three months for him to semi-trust you. Anyway, he also has a tendency to get jealous rather easily. You visited some of your other friends today, and therefore he may be jealous and when he is like that he gets even moodier. You could say he is rather possessive. But, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, he'll get over it soon. Don't worry."
"Thanks, Millard, Victor."

After Enoch heard Belle's footsteps fade away he slowly rose from his workstation and opened the door. Looking down he spotted the box of sweets and he bent down to pick them up. He had been rude to her yet she still gave him a gift? He shook his head his neat curls falling slightly over his eyes and he pushed them away with his spare hand. He shut the door to his bedroom and crept down the corridor and to the top of the stairs where he watched Belle enter the parlour. He quietly descended the stairs and made his way to the room where the girl had entered but stopped when he heard voices. He listened to the whole conversation that went on between Belle, Millard and Victor and for once in his life he felt bad for his actions.
As soon as the conversation died down he pushed the door open and entered the room his face hard and the box of sweets now in his pocket. "Florence, with me now." He said towards Belle. The girl nodded silently and bade the other two boys goodbye and followed the dead-riser out of the room. "Thanks for the beans." He said once the door was shut and they were nearing the kitchen. His tone was now soft and genuine not gruff and moody.
