Chapter 8: That's So Fetch
" I guess I see a new face today." The teacher said as soon as I re entered the gym after changing into my gym attire.
"Riya Singhania." I said.
" Coach Robin Bradshaw." She said shaking hands.
She was a black haired woman who looked pretty young ,maybe in her late twenties or early thirties.
"So,do you play any kind of sport?" She asked me.
"Basketball, Cricket,Badminton, Tennis and A little football...I mean soccer." I replied.
All 25 pairs of eyes including those of Mr.GWDCOMT turned towards me.
What? Just cause I was a girl, I couldn't play? That's stereotypical!
"That is amazing! You are one of the few girls I have met teaching career
who plays so many sports!" she said.
"Thank you" I replied with a smile on my face.
"So lets get started with today's class. Basket ball match. Girls vs Boys. "
That's why I heard basketball on the mouths of my cousins.
We took our places in the basketball court which was rocked! It was like those normal basketball courts you could see in any typical American high school with stuff like"Go Go Redfeilds Lions" written on the walls.
Parker was selected captain from the boys team and Antara from ours
"Princess, I just wanna say that don't
cry if you lose."
"Let's see."
Coach blew the whistle.
We started the game. Parker dribbled the ball as I tried to snatch it away from him but he passed the ball to Zee. Now that was gonna be easy. he never wins basketball from me. We've played loads of times. I signaled Tara to follow my lead.
Dribbling he aimed at the basket, where two girls were standing. Tara and I ran after Zee trying to grab the ball from either side. I was about to grab the ball but Zee threw the ball high in the sky and it was a
"BASKET" I heard Parker shout as the electrical scoreboard changed to 1 in favor of the boys.
" I've got better since we last played, Ri!" Zee said smirking.
"Sure you have." I said with a hint of sarcasm.
Coach played the whistle again. This time I snatched the ball from a guy I didn't know. I went towards the basket which was alloyed to the girls.
"Riya! Pass it to Claire. She knows what to do." I heard Antara shout.
I obeyed her and passed it to Claire. She and Tara were the only girls on the team who seemed to know about the game.
Claire ran at full speed dribbling the ball. The boys huddled around her to snatch the ball. But she didnt let them. She kept on passing the ball to all the girls who smoothly handled the ball.
I know! I under estimated them!
"RIya! Basket!" Claire shouted..
"What?" I asked, completely clueless.
"Go towards the basket. idiot!" Tara shouted.
"Brittany! Pass the ball to Santana. You pass it to Riya." Claire said pointing to two girls.
They did as they were told. I was surprised at their amazing coordination. The boys tried to do everything to snatch the ball from them but failed.
As soon as Santana passed me the ball, I jumped up high to throw the ball into the basket and cheered mentally when the scoreboard showed even for both the teams.
The boys groaned as the girls cheered.
"5 minutes left. Whichever team scores another goal wins." coach announced.
The ball was in Zee's hand. He tried to pass it to the nearest guy but Claire,Tara and I had surrounded him and he had no chance against us. I snatched the ball from Zee. All the thirteen of us kept on passing the ball to each other which led the boys into confusion. Ultimately, one of the girls couldn't get hold of the ball and it went to the hands of my archenemy,
Mr. GWDCOMT
Only a minute was left. I ran at top speed towards him. The other guys tried to stop me but failed and led to a crash between all the 13. This was my chance. I took the ball from Parker and ran at top speed dribbling the ball.
I was near the basket. I jumped up high and scored a basket for my team as soon as the bell rung for the period to end.
"Girls win! Hit the showers!" " coach said.
"You rocked it today gal!" Tara said.
"You guys were better. You guys have such good coordination!especially Claire and You! how?" I asked.
"Riya! Can I have a word with you?" Coach said before I left the gym.
"You guys go ahead." I told Claire and Tara.
"You played really well today. I would like you to try out for the team next week. Only if you want to." Coach said.
"I would love to! When are they?"
"Next Thursday after school."
"Thank you "
"Now go and celebrate your victory!"

"What did she want?" Claire asked as soon as I came out after changing.
"Try outs for basketball team next week."
"You've got to get selected! We'll have each other in all our basketball games."
"You guys are on the team? Even Santana and Brittany? No wonder you've got such good coordination! " I inquired.
"Claire's captain." Tara said.
"OMG! That's awesome! What about the boys?"
"Parker's captain. Zee's in the team." Tara said.
"That's so fetch!" I said.
"What?" Claire asked
"You think it's cool to have those two idiots in the team?" Antara inquired.
"That's the first thing that came to my mind after you said that about the boys' team! It's cool cause I get to beat their asses off in every game if I get into the team!"
