Chapter 10: Cause We've Got The Power
It has officially been two weeks since I started attending Red fields High. Today were the final selections for the basketball team of the season.
Redfields and its neighbouring schools believed in equality. Thus, they had a teams for both boys and girls.
This match would also decide to co - captain's of the season.
I had already been selected in the female team last week and I aimed to get selected in the real one.
All of us were wearing our Jerseys. They were red in color with a huge white 'R' in the middle.
"So guys, this match will be boys vs Girls. You get a time limit of 1 hr and a break in between. We will be marking you on your strategy, and the way you play. 5 players and 1 reserve will be chosen from the present 10 for the upcoming matches of the seasonThe team members will be announced in tomorrow's pep rally." Coach Bradshaw said.
"Gather around everyone." Claire ordered.
We huddled into a circle.
"We are standing in front of our greatest enemies. The Boys Of Redfields. We need to do our best. If we win, we get 6 of us on the team. That's gonna happen even if we lose but the boys will leave no chance of teasing us."Claire said.
"Hands in my Tigresses!" Tara shouted.
......
We ended up winning the game and rejoicing our victory in the girls' locker room after cleaning up ourselves.
Tara, who had finished changing before anyone came in with a box containing several cans for Coke. Everyone grabbed one and soon the locker room was filled with hissing sounds.
"Here's to Us!" I shouted.
"Us" Everyone chanted holding their cans on the air.
"Let's celebrate in our usual way." Claire said.
"What is your usual way?" I asked.
"We sing a song empowering girls ." Tara cleared.
"What should we sing today? We've sang almost everything." Santana, a girl on the team said.
"Betcha haven't ." I said a certain song which was one of my favorite songs struck my head.
"Tara, are you thinking what I am thinking?" I asked her.
"I think." she said.
" We are surely thinking of the same song....." I said.
"CAUSE WE'VE GOT THE POWER." we shouted at the top of our voices.
"What ya waitin' for? Let's get to the song."
I took up Perry's part with Tara following me with Jade's part. She was followed by Claire singing Jessy's section and another girl named Veronica Patrick singing Leigh Anne's section. By the second verse, everyone had recollected the song and had joined in.
But, I was really surprised hearing Claire and Veronica sing. I never knew they had such magnificent voices.
Veronica shared Chemistry with me. We were lab partners. She didn't speak much but we had become really good friends in these two weeks. She was an exchange student from London whose father had been transferred to Redfields.
"Your voices are amazing Veronica and Claire! I never knew you could sing so well."
"Neither did we know that you could sing that well." Veronica replied.
"You should really try out for the Glee club. We could really use voices like those." Claire said.
"You guys have a GLEE club??????" I asked.
"Yup." They said in unison.
"It was first called the Art's club but it changed to Glee club cause Hedge loved that show." Veronica said.
"And does a teacher named Will Shooster teach you?"
"Nope" Tara said. "But Coach Bradshaw and Mr. Reynolds teaching there."
"Coach Bradshaw? Singing and dancing? No way."
"Yes way." Claire said.
"We have practice today so you can try out today itself."
"I would love to." I said happy that I would be able to use my talent for school stuff.
"So lets meet in the music room at 3:30."
.......
That's it for today. I know it's pretty short and kinda weird but I'll make it up to you guys!
So, you might be wondering why the club's name is Glee Club. The idea of glee club came cause I've been watching a lot of GLEE lately. That's the first thing that popped into my head.
