Chapter 43 : I Suddenly Miss Oreo
"Somebody cleans up nice." I said as I saw Parker standing in front of me wearing a tux.
"You don't look too bad yourself." He said pulling me closer.
"This is neither the time nor the place to get all mushy." I said trying to stop him before a small kiss turned into of full make out session.
"You really know how to kill the mood." He groaned pulling away.
It was our final day at Greenville and the results of the fest would be announced soon. Greenville High had hosted a farewell party for all the participating schools.
"So, did you tell them yet? About Trinity?" Parker asked as we made our way towards the party.
"Kabir is the only one left. And I am kind of afraid to tell him. He freaked out the last time, when I had to come to US. He didn't talk to me for weeks! Who knows what is gonna happen if I say that I am moving to the other side of the Atlantic!" I said.
"It is going to be okay."
"I hope so." I said as we walking into the hotel's banquet hall.
"Redfields High?" The girl standing at the door asked me.
"Yes." I answered.
"Table number four. Have a great evening!"
"This seems like one of those fancy award show dinners." I said walking towards our table.
"Greenville has some notable alumni which leads to a lot of sponsors. One of which, include my Mom and Dad." Parker said.
"Your Dad's a Greenville alumni?"
"My father's side of the family is from Greenville. My Mom's the one for Redfields." He replied as we sat at our table.
The dress code for the evening was basically the same as prom. You could call this a mini prom. The boys wore tuxes or suits. The girls were wearing dresses or pantsuits, whichever they liked.
"This is some fancy stuff." Claire commented.
"It is going to get fancier. Extremely." Charlotte said taking a seat beside me
"You look amazing, babe." I said.
"Gracias." She replied. "You don't look bad yourself."
"Where are the others?" Parker asked.
"Tara is probably with Kabir." I said.
"Cause he doesn't know how to tie his tie." Zee said as high fived.
"And Veronica is probably fussing because she doesn't want to wear a dress." Claire said.
"Aren't you guys supposed to be helping her with that?" Jesse asked.
"Nope. Tonight is every girl for herself." Claire said.
"We are here." Tara said as she took a seat beside Parker while Kabir took a seat beside me.
"You look great." I said.
"You too." She replied.
"Finally, she comes." Claire said.
"Sorry, sorry. My eyeliner wasn't my friend tonight." Veronica said.
"I need to go. Have fun. Bye." Charlotte said.
"Good evening, may I have your attention please." The principal's voice sounded.
"Sadly, our programme has come to an end tonight."A series of 'boos' and 'awws' sounded.
"I suddenly miss Oreo." I said.
"Why suddenly?" Tara said.
"C'mon Santara, does Riya ever have any reason to do anything?"
"True dat." Tara said.
"I would like to welcome to the stage the President of the student council on stage to take over." The principal said.
"Hey everyone, I am Amelia Holt, the president of the student council. Introductions aside, the moment you have been waiting for is finally here. Its time to announce the winners of the events."
"For the cheer competition, in third position we have...."
The awards for the different completions continued for another 10 minutes. Tara had to go on stage for multiple times because of the prizes we had won throughout the fest.
Presently it was a very exciting moment. Silver Falls High School, Greenville High and Redfields High were the three schools in the top positions. The three schools had the highest points, and whichever school won the musical round, would be the winner of the competition.
"Kanha! Jita dena." I said folding my hands and closing my eyes. Tara and Zee had joined me as we prayed for victory.
"What are they doing?" I heard Jesse whisper.
"Praying." Kabir said.
"I thought they were aethists." Veronica said.
"Nope. They just don't pray very often. But when they pray, they pray to all of the gods." Kabir replied.
This boy will be the death of me. We were all praying so that we win and he was sitting and chatting with our friends.
"Kabir, kuch toh sharam kar. Aunty ko jaake sab bata doongi, tu ruk." Tara said.
"Okay okay, I'll do it." Kabir said as he jouned us in prayer. (I hope)
"And the third place, for the event, 'High School Musical, goes to, Silver Falls High!"
Cheers erupted around the hall as the entire team went on stage to collect the award.
"The second place goes to our very own, Greenville High School!"
Louder cheers erupted around the hall.
"The first place for the musical event as well as the entire fest goes to none other than, REDFIELDS HIGH SCHOOL!"
You might not believe it, but, Tara and I yelled our hearts out. We yelled and hugged each other. The results if this competition had kept the two of us awake most of the night, since this was one of the last competitions we would participate together. We might not even see each other for the next four years, except holidays.
We walked on stage along with the rest of our team and our teachers. We yelled as we received the trophy. The audience seemed amused at our reaction.
"Would any of you like to say anything?" Amelia asked.
"Riya?" Claire said.
"Tara?" I asked.
"Bol de." She said.
I took the mic.
"Oh my god, I really don't know what to say. Really." I laughed. "This feels amazing. Trust me, I have been a part of a lot of fests and competitions in my life, in India, but this, is by far the best. I think I speak in behalf of my entire team when I say that, we really enjoyed this entire trip. Every event contains such beautiful memories. Firstly, we would like to thank, our teachers for their guidance. Charlotte, Shahid and every other Greenville member who helped us throughout this entire journey and last but not the least, thank you Greenville for organizing such an amazing fest."
"Three cheers for Greenville High!" Tara yelled.
The competition was over. We won.
