(Jonathan POV)

I walk into the house to the sweet sound of silence.

I lay my briefcase on the kitchen table with the utmost care as I try to not make a single sound, taking off my black winter trench coat and hand it on the back of a chair.

The penthouse was surprisingly warm tonight and I could hear the gentle crackle of the fireplace in the living room. Ashley must have forgotten to shut it off yet again.

It was late at night by the time I got home but he came home early so he could have dinner with the kids. Since the girls turned one we had made it a habit for at least one of us to be home in time for dinner.

Ashley's the one who had made it a priority.

He always puts my kids above all else and treats them like they're his own.

I walk into the living room and lean against the door frame to take in the peaceful scene before me.

Ashley laid on the couch with Isla snuggled up with his left arm. Her long blond hair was brushed into a braid with tiny sparkles in it. Natia was on his right arm and her long black hair was brushed out and left long.

She never likes anyone touching her hair much like her eldest brother.

AJ was sleeping with his head on Ashley's legs and his mop of light brown hair all over the place with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders.

They all looked so beautiful that I couldn't believe they were mine.

There was only one person missing which weighed down on my heart for a few moments.

Kaleb would have been sixteen right now.

He would probably be holding one of his sisters and keeping AJ out of trouble.

I wonder what he would have looked like.

What his voice would sound like.

What would his personality be like?

These children were blessings but I had learned the hard way, you can't take them for granted.

One moment they are smiling in your face, learning to talk, and getting into trouble.

The next they could be hit by a car, kidnapped, or dying of cancer.

One moment your wife could be standing by your side, keeping you steady.

The next day she could be stabbed then left to die on the operating table.

One moment your best friend dies in a plane crash.

The next moment he could come back to life just because fate assigned him as your one and only soulmate.

I've learned this past year that truly anything is possible.

And nothing in this life should ever be taken for granted.
