"I trusted you,"
"I know,"
"I trusted you,"
"Yes, I know,"
Ashley sighs deeply and leans the park bench as the spring breeze flows through his perfect light brown hair, making him look ten times more attractive than he already is.
I probably looked like a mess from the hours spent crying over my loss and his gain.
I had started to wish I really did die.
Clearly, everyone else is perfectly happy without me.
"Does Jonathan know you're here?"
"No"
Silence.
"Ashley..."
"I'm not here to apologize,"
"I know."
He takes a sip of coffee.
He was on break from work and decided to meet me in the middle of central park.
"This isn't about Jonathan."
"I knew that. You can't be that obsessed with him. I'm his soulmate. Not you."
"When we were together...when Kaleb was with us...did you two..."
"No. We were just friends."
"Ah, forced friends."
"He was married to you"
"Hasn't stopped people before."
Silence
"That would have been really fucked up though. Shit, the three of us living together, Jonathan cheating on you in your own house without you knowing? Ha."
"It's not funny."
"Kind of is."
"You never change."
"Apparently, you did."
"I still don't get how it. In just a year, you were able to sneak in and take my place. You don't think you took advantage of him when he was vulnerable?"
"No, you did."
"What do you mean?"
"Jonathan and I dated for one day."
"When,"
"The day he met you."
Silence.
"Great."
"I know, isn't it funny how fate fixes itself."
"That hurts you know,"
"Welcome to my world for sixteen years."
"Well, you must have fucked it up somehow for him to come to me. That wasn't my fault."
Silence.
"Why do you want the children? You haven't even met Natia and Isla."
"They're my children Ashley. They are not yours and they never will be."
"Shit that's harsh. I don't even get a wow, thank you Ash. Thanks for taking care of my kids while I was dead."
"Is that what you want? I'm not thankful. I would much rather be in your shoes."
"Well you're not, so stop dreaming."
"They're my children Ash. You'll never have your own so you don't understand."
Silence
"No,"
"Yes,"
"No"
"Yup,"
Tears fill my eyes as I think of the beautiful baby that Jonathan and Ashley will have.
My heart turns to stone as any hope of Jonathan and I ever getting back together, disappears into thin air.
