CHAPTER 13:
GET IT TOGETHER
SONG FOR CHAPTER:
NOW OR NEVER BY HALSEY"Focus!" The Lord yelled at each one of the boys, as they sat in a circle trying their hardest to be one person. Their parents and or guardian stood off to the side with concern written all over their expressions.
"We're trying! Could you maybe stop screaming at us!?" Corbyn yelled back and opening his eyes to glare at the older man. The other boys did too, but just sighed in annoyance. They aren't getting anywhere at this rate. All they had to do was move a single block of metal; yet they can't even do that.
"I would stop screaming if I wasn't frustrated with you five. It's been at least twenty minutes. And if you all were truly supposed to be one person, then you would have moved it already" the Lord shouted and turning away. He began pacing while stroking his beard, mumbling incoherent words to himself.
"Then obviously we're not the five to do this" Zach mumbled and looking down at his hands. The Lord snapped his head in the direction of the youngest. His eyes sparkled as if he found out what the problem was.
"You! You're the problem. You're holding back" The old man questioned and getting closer. Zach furrowed his eyebrows and went red in the face. Everyone was staring at him now.
"You just assume I'm the one?" The pale boy wondered and crossing his arms.
"Well are you?"
Zach looked between all of them. He sighed.
"Yes" all the boys looked at him a little confused. The adults looked at him in defeat. And his own grandmother was worried. Zach never backed down from something he was committed to. "But only because I don't want to do this. You know, defeat the darkness. It's not for me. They'll have better luck doing this without me. I'm just going to get pushed off to the side anyway" he finished and standing to his feet. He ran a hand through his hair, sighing once again.
"Zach, you di-" Jonah was cut off from the one grandmother speaking up.
"Could I speak to my grandson for a minute?" Everyone looked at her, but allowed her to drag him away. They went through a brown door and were suddenly standing in a long hallway that had other multiple doors. Zach leaned against the wall and looked at his grandmother weakly. He really didn't want to do this. Yet here he was, ready for someone that he admires dearly to give him a long speech on why he should suck it up and continue on. "This goes farther than you just not wanting to defeat the darkness. Please tell me what's wrong. You've blocked me out ever since you came home crying with whatever all over you."
"It has nothing to do with that. I just don't think I'm strong enough to do all of this. Have you met me? I'm the school's nerd. Geek. Loser. Grandma, I'm not capable of saving the world. All I can do is find answers to math tests" Zach explained, while dropping his head. His shoes seemed to get a lot more interesting now that this conversation has started.
"Listen honey. I have met you; that's how I know you can do this. And you're a lot more than what you think. When you were little you thought you were the coolest and bravest kid around. What happened to that Zach? Because right now I miss him" the older lady grinned while placing one hand on his shoulder and another under his chin to lift it. The two looked at each other, trying to read each other.
"He disappeared when Jack did" Zach whispered.
"What?"
"The reason I came home crying that one day, was because Jack betrayed me. They all did. I was humiliated, in front of everyone. They thought saving me from some school disaster was more important than my feelings. And the next day when Jack had shown up at the door and said he was taking me to my special place, we had this huge argument. We stopped be friends then. And I also stopped being trusting. I'm nothing now" Zach answered, tears welling up in his eyes. He's been wanting to tell her about their downfall ever since it happened. But he couldn't. If he did, he felt like it would break her heart. Jack and him met because of her. Jack was someone she trusted to take care of Zach. And if she found out that he had done nothing but hurt him in the end, it would be terrible.
But now she knows.
And she isn't showing any emotion.
"Aw Zach. You should've told me" she said finally and bringing him in for a hug. "Forget about them. Forget about Jack" they broke apart and were again looking each other in the eyes. "You might not be worth anything to them, but you're definitely something to me. And if you put your mind to it, I know you'll be able to defeat this darkness. Prove to everybody that you're stronger than what they think. And if you're lucky, score something with Daniel" she winked at the end, making Zach turn a different shade. A small smile tugged at the end of his lips. He nodded at her to show he understood.
"Thank you, Grandma" Zach said softly and again bringing her in for a hug.
"Your welcome sweetie. Now let's go in there and show them who Zach Herron really is" the two smiled at each other, before going back into the main room. Everyone looked at them, making Zach blush from all the attention.
His grandmother put a hand on his shoulder, boosting some confidence for the teenage boy. He made his way back to the circle and took his spot right between Jonah and Corbyn. He looked up to see Daniel smiling at him. Zach smiled back, before looking down at his hands knowing his face was heating up. Jack looked between the two with an eye roll. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but he was getting a little annoyed of Daniel always somehow taking what once belonged to him.
Corbyn and the babe nickname. Zach and the obvious crush. It wouldn't be long, until Daniel had Jonah wrapped around his finger; the two giggling about corny dad jokes.
"Alright. We're going to do this one more time. Everyone take a deep breath and just focus on moving the block" The Lord said calmly. The boys looked at each other before closing their eyes. They all took a single breath, before letting their minds focus on moving the block of metal. Their hands began to glow their respected colors, while their tattoos all began to shine brightly. "Now move it" the Lord whispered.
The boys' eyes snapped open and slowly but surely they managed to move the block of metal. As it landed in a new spot of the room, all the boys closed their eyes and collapsed backwards. Each one of their guardians ran up to them and made sure that they were feeling alright. The boys were breathing heavy, along with a headache forming slowly but surely.
"Well that's enough. We'll train more next weekend. Now out! I have a spa treatment waiting for me" The Lord spoke, waving his hand before the others. And just like before everyone was suddenly transported back where they originally were. Everyone stood on Daniel's front lawn. They looked at each other awkwardly.
"Until next time...I guess" Daniel said, shrugging.

You said it Daniel. Sorry if this chapter was short and boring. I think I have a plan for the next chapter. Things might get a little steamy...
