CHAPTER 2:
COFFEE BOY
SONG FOR CHAPTER:
QUIT BY CASHMERE CAT FEATURING ARIANA GRANDE

Waking up to an uneventful Sunday morning is something Daniel hated. Especially when he was in a place that he didn't know about. He only knows that the people in the town love the newest coffee shop just a few streets down, along with appreciating the school that he will be attending tomorrow. It will be his first time at a different school, and he's not going to know anybody there. Hopefully Zach will be there, so he'll recognize one face.

Groaning to sit up from his makeshift bed, Daniel rubbed his face with a deep breath. He was just pulling the blankets from his body, when his mother had opened the door to his room. He jumped at the sight of her, making a box fly up and crash to the ground. Daniel threw his head back in annoyance, while his mother still kept a bright smile against her face. She was holding a cup of coffee and her robe aligned her body as if she woke up only a few minutes prier.

"For breakfast can you stop by that one caféband get a bag of bagels?" His mother beamed and right after taking a sip of her morning coffee. Daniel nodded simply, yet again running his hands over his face hoping the sleep would go away. "I'll go shopping later" the women finished before walking out of the room. Daniel stood to close the door. And he leaned against it, sighing.

Don't get him wrong, he loves his mom. It's just she was always just so happy. He has the same trait, but threw it away once he found out he was leaving everything he ever had behind. The wall he put up, consists of him always being simple and boring. He didn't want to make new friends and he definitely didn't want to be living in a different town. He's just going to have to suck it up though, and get over it. Because this was his life now. And there was nothing he could do about it. So getting up from the door, Daniel went to a nearby box that read Daniel's Clothes before opening it and picking out something descent to wear. It was still early in the morning so he didn't choose anything too classy. Just a plain t shirt and grey sweatpants. But while removing his shirt, yet again someone had came through his door being loud.

He jumped, causing another box to go flying through the air. The person quickly put their hand up, stopping the box from attacking them. Daniel watched in awe, as the same person focused on the box before allowing it to drop to the ground. The brunette was practically drooling at how well the person could control their powers.

"Close your mouth you're drooling new kid" it was Zach and he was observing a shirtless Daniel who seemed to blush. "I really should be the one who is flustered though. I've never seen someone so well...sculpted" He motioned to Daniel's body with a smirk, making him turn a darker shade of red. Zach leaned against the wall and observed the brunette as he finished slipping his plain band t shirt on.

"Why are you even here?" Daniel wondered as he motioned for Zach to follow him down the stairs. The whole way down, the brunette could feel the pale boy practically staring holes into the back of head. It was making him feel weird.

"Your mom had invited me in. I actually came to see if you wanted to maybe hang out at the park or something. Get to know each other a little more?" Zach answered. He fumbled over his words a few times, obviously trying to find a way to ask his question properly. Daniel nodded to approve, while slipping on his low top shoes. He grabbed the house keys from a nearby table and also placed a simple beanie on his head. The two boys headed out and made their journey to the café that wasn't as far as they expected. The warm breeze was hitting their skin and the two were engulfed in a conversation that seemed too short for their liking. They already were at the front door to the coffee shop, making Zach freeze in his spot as Daniel looked at him confusingly.

"What are you doing? Let's go" Daniel chuckled as he watched the boy shake his head furiously and take a few steps back.

"This is where the known people hang out. Meaning not me. I'll just wait out here" Zach protested, eyeing the café. He was looking at it as if it did him wrong in the past. And it did. He hated going in the shop, ever since he had this big blow out with a few previous friends. He doesn't dare even step foot in the place. It would just bring back the memories of him getting humiliated in front of everyone.

"Oh, come on" Daniel huffed, grabbing his hand. Zach whined and struggled to get out of the brunette's grasp, but obviously he was stronger. And once hearing the bell that went off every time someone entered, Zach tensed. He stopped his tantrum and hid behind Daniel as if he was his body guard. Zach felt stares, while Daniel moved through the café as if he had no care in the world. The two made it to the front counter holding two different emotions. Daniel placed his hands on the brown table, catching an employees attention. He was shorter like Zach and had amazing glowing skin. He had curly hair that covered some of one eye, and on his nose he had a little sparkling stud. His chocolate brown eyes met Daniel's blue ones. Looking at his name tag, it read Jack.

"How may I help you today?" Jack wondered and biting his lower lip absentmindedly.

"Can I have a simple caramel ice coffee? And four plain bagels?" Daniel answered, making Jack nod while placing the order in the machine. "Did you want anything Zach?" Daniel wondered after and turning to face the pale boy who still coward behind him. Jack piped up at the name and moved so he was able to see Zach. He gave a small mumbled "no", moving slightly away from the taller brunette. Jack and Zach connected glances, causing Zach to squeak and hide behind Daniel once again. Jack showed hurt, but went to go get Daniel's order.

It wasn't long.

"That will be seven dollars and fifty cents" Jack mumbled and placing the order on the counter. Daniel nodded before pulling out his cash. He exchanged it and grabbed the food. Daniel was going to walk away with Zach right behind him, but the same voice stopped them. Turning around they had seen Jack walking up to them and giving a small grin. "I'm on break for an hour, how about we get to know each other, yeah?"

Daniel seemed tempted to answer, but Zach beat him to it.

"No. Get to know someone else, we're leaving" and with that, Zach pushed Daniel out the café doors. They didn't make it far, when the pale boy had felt his arm being grabbed. He swiftly turned around to see that it was Jack yet again, but holding a face of mercy. Zach wasn't having it and Daniel was simply confused. Obviously the two boys had a bad past and are still living with it.

"Zach, please..." Jack trailed off. Zach snatched his arm from the curly haired male and kept walking. Daniel looked between the two. He mumbled a "sorry" to Jack, ready to take off. That was until Jack stopped him for a split second and seemed to be sluggish with his movements. "Can you try and get him to come back? I really need to speak to him."

Daniel nodded, not really understanding what was going on.

"Thanks coffee boy."

"It's Daniel" the brunette corrected.

"I like my name more" Jack winked and heading back in the café. Daniel rolled his eyes, before going after Zach. Luckily he wasn't that far and all the brunette had to do was jog to catch up. And when being able to stand by his side, Daniel could hear that he was mumbling profanities under his breath.

"Stupid Jack. Stupid friendship. Stupid me" he spit, while kicking the sidewalk.

"What happened back there?" Daniel wondered after Zach had calmed down just a moment. Instantly the pale boy looked up at him with a scowl.

"I don't wanna talk about it."
