A/N Oh my god I have 4k reads on this
What a surprise it was to see Lavender go up and start to snog Ron after we won the Quidditch match.
I didn't really even think much of it until I saw the look on Hermione's face. She was standing just a few feet behind them, having stopped in her tracks while she ran down from the stands.
Harry and I exchanged a look.
"Let me handle it," I whispered, and he nodded, letting me go over by myself.
I gently wrapped my arm around her, turning her around.
"They're really going at it, aren't they?" she said, a cold sound in her voice.
"Hermione, don't think about that," I said softly. "Think about us winning!"
She hesitated before saying, "We won because of him."
I struggled to find more words. I ended up not saying anything as we walked into the castle.
Since this game had been amazing, and we beat the other team by a lot, a party commenced in the common room. I tried to keep Hermione focused on other things, especially when I noticed Lavender sitting in Ron's lap while they continued to kiss. I let out a small cry when she stormed out of the room after seeing that.
"Do you think maybe I should try to talk to her?" Harry asked.
"Obviously I'm not the best at it, so yeah," I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "I don't know how she did it when I fancied you."
"At least I wasn't doing that," Harry said, glancing back at his best friend.
"That did help," I chuckled, smiling weakly. "Go ahead. I had trouble finding the right things to say."
He walked out of the common room, and I left, going to find someone else to talk to.
Harry's POV
I found Hermione sitting by herself on the steps leading to the common room entrance. A few birds chirped quietly, drifting carefully around in front of her.
"Hey," I said, sitting down next to her. She quickly wiped a few tears off of her face before looking at me.
"How much did it hurt you to see Cassie kissing Malfoy all the time?" she asked, her eyes filled with pain.
I hesitated a little. "Well...I was angry at her, but-"
"I know, that's different," she sighed looking down. I bit my lip.
"But it felt like the entire world had fallen apart. Not having Cassie was one thing, but seeing someone else get her..." I sighed, trying to find the right words. "It is slightly different. I was being a jerk. I deserved what she did, I went and kissed Cho."
"I know." She twirled her wand slowly between her fingers. "Is it wrong to miss something I never even had?"
Suddenly the portrait door opened. A high-pitched laugher came, causing us to turn around. I winced as Ron was dragged out by Lavender, a grin on both of their faces.
"Oh. I think this room is taken," she giggled. "Come on, Won Won!"
She left, but 'Won Won' stayed.
"Hey, Hermione, are you alright?" he asked, stepping forward a little.
She stood up, pointing her wand at him and whispering a spell. The birds suddenly flew at him, and, panicked, he ran away. The birds smashed into the wall.
