A/N This is another chapter I've been excited to write but I was crying a lot while doing so. Enjoy

After changing into clean clothing that the room provided and explaining to Mum what was happening, I walked with Harry to Dumbledore's office. There had very recently been another announcement from Voldemort, sending chills through my entire body; everything would be peaceful for an hour...but after that, he wanted Harry.

I was trying hard not to cry at the sight of the school as we walked. Some of the walls had broken and were now crumbling down. Portraits had fallen, laying face down on the ground. There were people walking past us, some holding ones who had died. I held Harry's hand tightly, my head on his shoulder, my eyes down.

We went into the office staring at the pensive that was already out and waiting for us. I glanced over at the wall to see a picture of Dumbledore, a solemn look on his face as he nodded at us once, silently telling us that this must be done.

I was terrified to see what awaited.

He uncapped the vial and poured it into the liquid, the silver immediately turning to black as it hit the water. Harry took my hand once again, glancing at me.

"Are you ready?"

I nodded.

We stood in a sunny field by a playground, staring at two girls. One held her hand out as a flower bud bloomed in her palm, showing the other girl.

"You're a freak!" she yelled, backing up. "I'm going to tell Mummy!"

It was Petunia. The girl with the flower was Lily.

As she ran, a boy emerged from behind a tree, startling Lily but not seeming to care.

"You're not a freak. You're like me," he told her.

The image changed, showing the two laying by a lake in the grass.

"She's just jealous," the boy said to her. "She's normal, and you're special."

"That's mean, Severus."

I took a sharp breath in as the memory shifted once again. It showed Lily and Snape for a long time, her getting into Gryffindor and meeting James, Snape becoming upset as they became friends. And suddenly, we were in Dumbledore's office again, but still in the memory.

"He's planning to kill them, sir," Snape gasped, trying to hold back a sob. "He thinks that the boy is the one in the prophecy. The boy born at the end of July."

"What do you want from me?" Dumbledore asked, his eyes studying Snape warily.

"I want you to protect her," Snape begged. "Protect all of them! Hide them!"

"What would you do in return, Severus?" he asked, leaning with his hands on the desk.

"Anything."

Everything shifted, but we were still in the office. Snape came running in, and now, for the first time, I saw the man crying.

"You promised!" he shouted, glaring at Dumbledore. "You promised you would protect them!"

"I believe the boy made it out alive, Severus."

"But...but Lily," he gasped.

"You must protect the boy, Severus," he told him. "Protect him, if you really loved her."

He stayed silent for a moment, slowly crossing his arms. "No one must know."

Now Snape stood by Dumbledore's side, examining his cursed hand; it was sixth year now. We had to almost be finished.
