A/N I was so excited to write this chapter oh my god
I never knew how scared a person could actually be until Mum told me to start pushing when the next contraction came.
They had progressively gotten worse throughout the hours, and I was now at ten centimeters. I was about to give birth. I was about to give birth.
I found it odd that my mind didn't seem to comprehend this until now.
I let out a scream, the pain bringing a dark shadow along the edges of my vision. I began to push, not knowing what was happening, not caring. As long as this ended. Soon.
"Good, good!" Mum cried out. She was the only one left in here; they all had gone to fight, including Dad. I was worried, but my mind was occupied, and I couldn't think at the moment.
I began to relax, my entire body feeling tired and sore, and I could hear her let out a cry of despair.
"You need to keep pushing, Cassandra!" she told me, reaching over and grabbing my hand, watching under the blanket for the baby. "Keep going!"
I tried to push again, letting out a sob. "I can't!"
"Yes you can! I can see one!"
That was enough to motivate me, and I began to push once again, letting out sobs the entire time. Mum kept yelling words of encouragement, letting go of my hand after about a minute to help the baby out.
The pain ended, but I was aching everywhere imaginable. My head fell back, and I took gasping breaths, my eyes shut. A moment later, I heard a small cry, and my head shot up once again.
"Who is that?" I mumbled. I looked around, not able to see anyone. "Mum?"
"I'm cleaning her off!" she called, and I turned my head to the open door of a bathroom. She came out a few seconds later, carefully holding a small, beautiful baby, wrapped in a towel.
A wave of emotions stronger than I had ever felt hit me. I began to cry, pushing myself up to an almost upright position, reaching my arms out.
"It's your little girl," Mum said with a smile as she placed her in my arms. I gently cradled her close to my chest, making sure to support her head as I stared into her beautiful green eyes.
"Ingrid," I said, smiling through the tears. "Her name is Ingrid."
Mum let out a laugh, leaning forward and kissing the top of my head. "I can't believe I have a granddaughter," she whispered.
It was so peaceful, for those couple minutes. Another contraction came soon after, and thankfully, Ingrid was quickly taken from my arms. I was worried as soon as the pain started that I would drop her; I was on a couch, so it wasn't the best set up.
"Where did you put her?" I cried out, letting out a groan from the pain.
"The room got two bassinets," Mum said with a smile. "And there are diapers and clothes in the bathroom for both of them."
I let out a shaky breath, nodding.
"Are you ready for your son?" she asked, squeezing my hand. I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded.
He was much harder than Ingrid; it took longer than I was comfortable with. By the time it was over, I wasn't even able to comprehend the crying I heard. I was letting out small sobs, feeling nothing but thankful that it was over.
"Cassandra," Mum said softly. I opened my eyes, sitting up a little and holding out my hands. She placed the baby boy into my arms, and I held him just as carefully as I did with my girl.
"Albus," I said, telling her the name Harry chose. She smiled, taking a deep breath.
"Ingrid and Albus," she said, stroking my hair as I looked at him. His eyes were a deep grey. "Born very early on May third."
"I...I love them so much," I whispered with a small laugh, not bothering to wipe the tears that fell from my eyes. "Bring Ingrid to me."
A moment later, I had both Ingrid and Albus in my arms, and I didn't want to ever let them go. I now faced forward on the couch, my feet touching the floor. My mom went and got stuff ready in the bathroom while I watched them as they fell asleep.
It was then that Harry walked in.
My head shot up, but despite the fact that I wanted nothing more than to get up and yell for him to look at what we made, I simply smiled, the look on his face more than I ever could ask for as he walked towards us.
"Those-those are ours," Harry murmured, his eyes wide as he came to sit next to me.
"Albus and Ingrid," I said softly, moving my head to show Harry which one was which.
"Oh, look at their eyes," he whispered with a small laugh, slowly wrapping an arm around me. "Albus looks like you."
"And Ingrid looks like you."
There was a moment of silence.
"How are things?" I asked hesitantly, scared to hear the answer. Harry didn't respond for a moment, his eyes quickly draining of all emotion.
"Fred, Lupin, Tonks, and Snape," he said softly. It took me a moment to realize what he meant; and when I did, I took a sharp breath in.
"Oh...oh."
"Snape left this," he told me, taking a small vial out of his pocket. In it was a silvery, glowing liquid-like substance, floating peacefully throughout the bottle. "He told me to take you to the pensive. That we both need to watch this."
"Harry, I have to take care of them," I said with a frown, looking down at the babies.
"Look, I don't know what this is, but it was important to Snape that you saw it, too," Harry pleaded. "Your mother can watch them. Please."
I sighed a little, looking down at them. "I'm just scared to-"
"I'm worried too. But we need to do this, Cassie," he said. I took a deep breath, nodding.
"Okay."
He smiled a little, looking back down at Ingrid and Albus. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," I responded, leaning slightly into him. "And I love our family."
