Adams POV:
I awoke to a beautiful sunny morning and gently rub my eyes and slide out of bed and ring for Smith. As always Smith makes it to my room in record time.

Smith: Good morning my lord, have a restful sleep?

Adam: I did thank you, what about yourself?

Smith: Very good my lord.

I nod and smile and he gets me dressed for the day. I walk down the stairs and make my way to the dining room where the smell of sausages, fresh fruit and hard boiled eggs waft to my nose. I see that Robert is already awake and reading the paper.

Adam: Good morning Robert.

Robert: Adam my dear fellow good morning, please sit, I'm almost finished with the paper if you would like it.

Adam: It's all yours, I'm perfectly happy looking out the window, thank you though.

We both continue to sit and eat in silence until the girls come in, of course Jane was the first to enter, then Sybil, Edith and then last Mary.  The girls all kiss Robert on the cheek and smile sweetly at me.

Sybil: Good morning Adam.

Adam: Good morning Sybil, Mary, Edith, Jane.  I trust you all slept well.

They all nodded and then tended to their breakfast.

Edith: So, Adam, what do you have planned for the day?

Robert: Let's not pry Edith.

Edith: I only wanted to make friendly conversation-

Adam: It's really alright Robert, it is very kind of you to ask Edith, I actually intended to write some letters and maybe catch up on some reading.

Mary: Whom are you writing to?

Robert: Really girls leave the poor man alone.

Adam: Robert it's really alright, and I mean to write to my parents and my grandmother.

Robert: Isn't your grandmother the great Ginger Edwards?

Adam: Well now she's Ginger Redmond but yes that is her maiden name.

Jane: Ginger Edwards? As in Ginger Edwards the opera star?

Mary: How do you know about Ginger Edwards?

Jane gets up abruptly and walks out of the room, we all look at each other confused, then, minutes later she returns with a book and puts it on the table in front of Mary and turns to a page with non other than my grandmother on it.

Jane: Honestly don't any of you read!?

Robert: Jane!?

Jane: Sorry papa but honestly I can't believe that they haven't heard of Ginger Edwards!?

Mary smiles and rolls her eyes.

Mary: She's very opinionated our Jane.

Adam: Well why shouldn't she be? I find that there is no better quality in a person than knowing ones own mind.

Sybil: Here here!

.............................Later on..............................
After breakfast everyone went their separate ways, Robert went to check on Cora, Edith went into town, Mary went to her room, Sybil went out into the gardens, and of course Jane was in the library. So, I picked out a nice little on the patio and prepared to write my letters.

Dearest Papa and Mama,
I hope you both are fairing well, I haven't heard from you in awhile, I must plan a visit to see you. I have been staying at Downton Abbey home to the Crawley family. Papa, you know Robert from his visit to London last year and mama you met his wife Cora at Aunt Tillies flower show. I have been quiet content here and I would love for you both to see it someday. Their daughters are absolutely charming! There is Edith who is whip smart, Mary, nothing turns her away, Sybil, tries to keep everything peaceful, and their youngest Jane, there are no words for Jane, non that would do her justice. Anyways, I'll try to visit soon but I dare say I quiet like it here.

Much Love,
Adam

I finished the letter and sealed it up, then it was on to writing my grandmothers letter,

Dearest Grandmama,
Oh so much to tell you, I have been staying at Downton Abbey for the last few weeks and I must say I'm not sure I ever want to leave. The Crawleys are very nice people, I feel that you would like Violet Crawley, she says exactly what's on her mind and has isn't afraid to let the world know. But I must say the person that I have most enjoyed meeting has been the Crawleys youngest daughter Jane. Grandmama, there are no words to describe her, she's a beautiful person inside and out, not to mention she's a fan of yours! I promise to visit you soon or at the very least send for you.

Much Love,
Adam

I finish both letters, seal them and then walk down to the town to mail them.  That late afternoon as I walked back into the house I see Jane sitting in the study.....crying.  I rush over to her.

Adam: Jane?  Are you quiet alright?

She looks up, tears glistening in her big blue eyes.

Jane: It's mama.....she's.....she's lost the baby.

She puts her head back down and starts to cry again.  I timidly sit by her side and put my arm around her and, surprisingly she leans into me.  Just then Mary walks in and I hastily remove my arm from Janes shoulder.

Mary: Oh my darling.

She rushes over to Jane and takes my place by her side and rubs small soothing circles into the young girls back.

Mary: There there shh.  It'll all be alright in the end, you'll see.

Mary gives me a look that I take to mean, you better leave now before papa catches you.

Adam: Well I think I'll leave you to it.

Mary smiles warmly at me at she brings Jane closer to her and kisses her head.

The next morning I got up and got ready for the lunch in that Robert was having. Of course the entire house was cast in shadow, Cora had insisted on the lunch in still happening. So now we were all outside drinking champagne and chatting about this and that. Cora was lounging in a chair covered in some blankets with Robert next to her.

I see Jane talking to Isabelle and decide to walk over and join them.

Adam: Good afternoon ladies.

Isabelle: Oh Adam hello! How are you?

Adam: Alright I suppose, and you?

Isabelle: Oh as well as any of us can be by the news.

Adam: Well I suppose we shouldn't cast appall over the whole day, may I get you ladies some champagne?

Isabelle: That would be splended Adam thank you.

Jane: Actually Adam may I have a cup of tea instead?

Isabelle: It's a bit hot for tea isn't my dear?

Jane: Well then I guess I'll get hotter.

Adam: As you wish.

I give them both a warm smile and head off to my task. After I had delivered the drinks I start to walk over to Matthew when Robert comes running into the middle of the party waving his hat with urgency.

Robert: ATTENTION! MY LORDS AND LADIES! I have just received a telegram, and....we are at war with Germany.

A heavy silence falls over the crowd. From that day on, the world as we knew it would become quiet the different place.
