As the brown, crumbling leaves removes itself from the trees and falls so gracefully, Ryan and Shane walk hand in hand down the empty roads of England. It's their third day of vacation and Shane was loving it. Ryan, not so much. Of course, he enjoyed nonetheless. He was with his boyfriend, having some alone time.
They'd been dating for a long time now, seven years to be exact. Both being happy with each other's company, Shane making Ryan wheeze with laughter every minute, they were grateful. Shane has found his soulmate, and Ryan has found his. Their love story started back in their childhood days, as they were, and still are, best friends. You know the drill, new person comes into school and the other person, who so happens to be awkward, makes friends with the new comer. and so, their friendship began with dinosaurs and conspiracy theories.
Shane suddenly stops in his track, pulling the younger man back. His eyes met Shane's, and was quickly filling up with fear and concern.
"Shane?" he asks after a few minutes of silence. Ryan could feel the beat of his heart racing rapidly, and he wanted it to stop. He wanted it to calm down, but who knew what Shane was going to say.
After a few moments, Shane sticks his hands in his coat pocket, fidgeting with a box that's been kept a secret for some time. He smiles as his fingers traces the material of the box, knowing it was time. His brown eyes met brown, and slowly kneeled down to the floor on one knee. Ryan watches with wide eyes and his hands covering his mouth, Shane pulls out the box and shows it for his boyfriend to see. A soft cry escapes Ryan's lips, and he's smiling so widely.
"Ryan," the taller man starts, "We've been together for seven years, and those seven years were my happiest. You make me so happy, to the point where whenever I'm with you, I smile. I love seeing you smile, and to be the reason for it, Ry, it means everything. You are the love of my life, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." Shane's eyes averts to the box for a second, slowly opening it revealing the most beautiful diamond ring. Ryan lets out another soft cry, only leaning down to let his and his boyfriend's lip touch. Shane smiles within Ryan's, and it made Ryan's heart beat faster than usual.
As Shane pulls away, his smile practically glued to his lips, he asks the question that has been on pause for way too long:
"Will you marry me?"
Ryan smiles, showing his pearly whites. He knelt down to get level with Shane and pressed their lips together again. This time, it was a different feeling. Both of their hearts beated the same rthymn, their hearts fluttering at the sight of each other. The younger man didn't know how to explain, but it felt like this kiss was so long overdue. Ryan pulls away first, and his eyes fixed on his boyfriend with a soft smile.
"Yes, you idiot." It was a matter of time before Shane asked Ryan the question, and their hearts was beating faster than a shooting star flying across the starry sky. Shane smiles and grabs Ryan's hands to his own and stands, Ryan standing, too. The taller man slowly slides the ring onto the shorter man's short fingers, the smiles not erasing.
In a blink of an eye, Shane went crashing down the stone ground. His face expressionless. A loud gunshot sound could be heard from a mile away, and it broke Ryan's hearing for a while.
Screams. Screams was all he could hear and he caught his boyfriend just in time before his figure could fall against the floor. Everything felt like it was on slow-motion; though in Ryan's head, it was going too fast. He turned to the taller man, who laid there with his eyes closed, and his mouth slightly opened.
"Shane?"he asks, shaking the figure of his boyfriend, now fiancé, "Shane, please wake up."
He couldn't stop the tears from flowing, so he didn't bother to wipe the wet substance off his face; he wanted Shane to be alive.
"Shane, don't do this to me, this isn't funny." A crowd was forming between the couple, and Ryan stared in shock as he saw fresh blood oozing it's way out of Shane's chest. He touches it, and yells at the crowded to call an ambalance.
"Shane." Lots of things were going through his mind. His fiancé could be dead, and it was the day when he proposed. It was supposed to be the happiest day of Ryan and Shane's lives, but instead, it was ruined. Ryan held Shane. Ryan held Shane close to his chest and cried. He didn't like how everyone was just staring, but what could they do?
"Please be alive, baby,"
Breathe.
"I need you so much."
And.
"Shane, please."
Know.
"Shane!"
That.
"I need you, Shane!"
I.
"Madej, this isn't funny!"
Love.
"Come on, Shane. You once promised me forever! Be strong, Shane."
You.
"Shane."
So.
