"Is blindfolding me really necessary?"
"Yes, Ryan. This is your surprise," Shane said, slightly tightening the knot of the black cloth that wrapped around his lover's face. As much as he knew Ryan hated surprises, he felt the need to have something great and planned for the one he truly loved. Because he deserved it. Because he had such a busy week.
With that, he led the man to the place where the surprise was, occassionally tripping over pebbles that stood their way. Ryan giggled and held tightly onto Shane's hand, hands trembling with nervousness and sweat. He was scared, of course he was. The shorter man didn't know what was to come, and the unknown made him anxious, but this was Shane. Ryan knew the older man worked hard for this, and he trusted him with all of his heart, so he shook off any negative thoughts that came mind and followed each instruction his lover made.
"And here we are," Shane announced, a smile played on his lips. He took the black cloth that was wrapped around Ryan's face and it took a minute for the boy to adjust to the sudden brightness that he was faced with. Looking around, he saw fairy lights that decorated the place, illuminating everything in sight. A wooden table stood proudly in the middle, plates and cutlery was placed perfectly, chairs covered in white sheets that was wrapped with blue ribbon; Ryan's favourite colour.
"Oh, Shane." Ryan sighed dreamily. He wondered how he got so lucky, replaying the moments of when they first met in his mind like a broken record. It was the start of something beautiful, and Ryan never felt so in love. "You didn't have to do this."
Shane met Ryan's hazel eyes, immediately feeling at peace. "You had such a busy week. I know how stressed you felt. So, I decided to do a little something, something for you."
Ryan smiled and leaned in towards Shane to connect their lips for the first time before he blindfolded him, the spark and fireworks tingled into both of their brains. It was lovely, and the two felt true happiness in each other's presence. Shane mentally thanked Ryan he stayed with the once broken man, loving him as much as he loved the younger boy.
Disconnecting their lips, Ryan laughed once more, the corner of his eyes crinkled as the happiness wheezed out of him. He was happy. Of course he was.
"Happy birthday, Ry."
"You know, I'm actually quite hungry."
Shane chuckled. "Really? I greet you a happy birthday and all I get is that?"
Ryan rolled his eyes playfully in response, gazing at the food that was prepared before the table. "I'm hungry. I haven't eaten all day."
"And why is that?"
"You told me to not eat, so, I didn't."
"Ah. I wanted to prepare you," Shane said.
"You wanted to prepare me by starving myself. What a good boyfriend you are, Shane," Ryan rolled his eyes once more, a hint of sarcasm clear in his voice.
"This is everything I've ever wanted," Ryan spoke, wiping his lips with a tissue. He gazed at Shane, capturing his toothy grin at him in his mind.
Shane made him feel all sorts of emotions, but he knew for sure they were all positive emotions. He made him feel at home, like that's what it feels like to actually belong somewhere. Ryan wasn't sure of anything but Shane. He knew he was the one the moment he smiled, his eyes twinkling as the sun shone brightly above him, the cool spring breeze that graze upon their skin as they talked about themselves. About their dreams and hopes for the future to come.
"I love you, Shane." Ryan blurted out, and those three simple words made the taller man lift his head up to meet Ryan's, both expressions surprised at the sudden words. It was unexpected, but deep in Ryan's heart, he knew he truly did love Shane, but it was yet so early in the relationship. He didn't want to screw everything up.
"Look, I'm so sorry. I-I didn't mean to say it this early in this relationsh-"
"I love you, too."
