Ryan didn't have long left. He knew that the information stood to be true when he gently pulled strands of his hair, pieces of his own growing hair wrapped tightly around his fist. The boy looked up at the mirror that stood so tall, so proudly, and saw reflection of a broken man infront of him. Tears brimmed at the corner of his eyes and each long minute he continued to stare at the man he no longer recognized, the longer he hated himself.

"Ryan?" His nurse, Julie, called out, her head peeked out at the door. She smiled at him, the smile that Ryan recognized as sympathetic, but he didn't need their sympathy. He didn't anything.

"You have a visitor. Shane Madej?"

As the name rolled out of her lips, everything else became unclear to him. Shane Madej. His life-long best friend, ex co-worker, and his lover. He felt his heart race at the name, and it only got louder when he saw the giant walk into his room, with a gentle smile plastered across his face.

At first he made contact with the younger man, pressing soft kisses upon his forehead, then proceeding to place the bouquet of lillies into the glass vase, watering it with the small cup that the hospital provided.

Ryan followed Shane's every move, a smile not removing once. "Ry, how are you?"

His smile grew wider at the genuine concern. "I've been good. Just finished chemotherapy."

"That's great, honey."

For once, silence dragged on and the only sound that removed the tension of the atmosphere was the clanking noises of the heater, its hot air wrapped around him as comfort overtakes him. But now the only comfort he needed was the warmth of Shane Madej.

"Baby?" Ryan spoke, the man lifting his head at the nickname, "If I don't make it, I-"

"Ry, don't say things like that. You are going to make it, alright? You're a fighter, not a quitter."

The shorter man hesitated for a while, biting the skin off his lips as the feeling of uneasiness and nervousness took over him. He had little time, and he knew Shane knew that too, but he could tell he was hiding the pain he felt inside and Ryan couldn't blame him. What Ryan was diagnosed with came as a surprise, the once happy couple having to go through waves that would over take them, drowning them with problems they'd thought they'd never had to face. But here they were.

Shane carefully made his way closer to the man he's loved for many years. Their childhood selves took up the most room in his brain, smiles so fresh, problems seeemed to never bother them at all. He sat on the bed where Ryan laid, wires attatched to keep him alive and well. Leaning down, his stomach growled with concern. He didn't want him to go. Ever. Shane needed Ryan as much Ryan needed Shane, and the man would constantly remind him that he was his world. No matter what happens, Ryan knew Shane would love him forever.

"You're a strong man." Shane repeated, words slipped through his lips as a gentle whisper, calming each and every of Ryan's worries. "You're not gonna go, I'm not going to allow you."
