"Oh, I don't know how to ice skate, though." Ryan says, biting his lips nervously. He leans down to tie the knots of his skating shoes, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
"It'll be alright! I'll teach you!" Shane replies, smiling at the younger man, who looked up shaking his head furiously. "Ry, you will be fi-"
"You know what happened last time someone taught me how to skate." Ryan says, the scenes of him falling and hurting himself on ice replaying in his mind. It didn't go away.
"Come on! It's only me!"
Ryan crossed his arms and rolled his eyes. "Yeah, that's the problem. It's you."
"Shut up, Ryan. Let's go!" Shane shouts, dragging the boy into the ice rink, the shorter man holding tightly onto the sides. Shane watched in amusement as his lover attempts to skate, chuckling at the expression that he held, his eyes danced with fear. It was as if they were back at the Sallie House, and Shane snorted at the imagine of Ryan screaming in fear.
"Shut up, Shane, I'm scared!" Ryan yelled, slipping but was quick enough to hold himself together. "Hold me."
The dirty blonde smiled at the command, and skated his way through to Ryan, holding his gloved hand and guiding him closer to the middle of the rink. He didn't mind the people surrounding them, skating their way through pass the two lovers.
"Don't abandon me like that again. You're suppose to be teaching me."
"I didn't abandon you, lovely, you held onto the side. Learn it yourself." Shane says, slipping his hand away from Ryan.
"Shane, n-no, I'm gonna fall! I'm gonna fall!" The taller man just watched in amusement as the dark haired man fell on his bottom, his cheeks fluttering red from embarrassment.
Ryan looked up at Shane, who offered a hand and kindly accepted it. The breeze of the rink gave them both shivers, and they never did really notice that.
"I'm sorry, love. I just love seeing you skate." Shane smiles at the boy, who shook his head in annoyance.
"Stop leaving me! Hold my hand."
The beat of the music was slow, and so they held each other close, Ryan's grip on Shane's was lot tighter, but Shane didn't mind. He didn't mind at all. At some in the music, Shane held both of their hands up, the younger man twirling, almost slipping. Ryan came back to face his lover, and he could feel the joy radiating from his heart. He never realized how happy he was with Shane, and how lucky he got.
"Don't do that again."
Shane chuckled, pressing a gentle kiss upon Ryan's forehead. He knew it was time.
"Ryan, I have something to tell you."
They stopped dancing for a while, the man backing up, smiling so sweetly as he encouraged Shane to carry on. The taller man looked around, and saw the joy in some of their faces, and how Ryan deserves to have that kind of joy in his life. No matter what people thought of him, he deserved it nonetheless.
Shane kneeled on the ice floor, and Ryan gasped loudly as he uses one his hands to cover to his mouth, and the other to hold onto Shane so he wouldn't fall. He saw strangers gasping out loud too, pointing at the two lovers who stood in the middle of the ice rink.
"Ryan Bergara," Shane started, choking up tears, "you are my everything. I've come to realize how much I love you, and I do not think I have ever loved somebody as much as I love you. You are my sunshine, Ryan. You make me happy when skies are grey, and I'm so lucky to have you."
As soon as Shane pulls out a black velvet box, Ryan was already crying a river. And so was many strangers witnessing this.
"Will you marry me?" He opened the box and there contained a gummy ring, the shades purple and blue blending together to make such a beautiful colour. The shorter man chuckled at the sight, not believing he was going to marry this man.
"Yes! Of course, I-"
Ryan fell.
And a crowd of subtle laughter echoed the place, Shane and Ryan going along. Ryan sat up straight, placing his icey palms on his lover's warming cheeks.
"Yes," Ryan kissed Shane's nose, smiling. The taller man closed his eyes, savouring a moment he wished it'd never end.
"I," Ryan kissed Shane's forehead.
"Will," And their lips met and it was like their first kiss ever, magical and sparkle. It comes to show their love never left, it was always there, watching the couple happily, maybe with orange juice in hand. And it didn't even like orange juice.
Shane pulled away first and a series of applauses surrounded them, but that soon faded away until all he could ever hear was Ryan's slow breathes, and their rapid hearts beating happily.
Their forehead resting against one another, smiles yet to be removed, and they wondered how they found each other in a world full of hatred, and confusion. I guess it was luck.
Ryan and Shane are lucky. Hella.
