Two years ago — Mauville City
May carried a huge bag with her as she made her way to the picnic area at Mauville Park. There waited her green-haired companion.
"Drew! Heeeey!" May yelled as she ran towards him. "Whoa...whoa!"
She almost trips, but she made sure to keep caution of her bag.
"May, I swear...ugh" Drew said as he helped her out. He took the huge bag from her. "Why are you carrying such a big bag anyway?"
"Well...because presents!" May exclaimed as she hugged him. "Happy Birthday, Drew."
"May, there's no need for so many gifts...but thanks." Drew replied as he hugged her back. "I'm just happy you didn't hurt yourself while running here."
"Well, I hope you like the stuff I'll be giving you." May said she started to prepare the picnic cloth she got from her bag. "Okay, you got the food right? I don't get why you're in charge of making the food. I mean...it's your birthday!"
"Well...if you're in charge of the food, they would be consumed before you even get here." Drew replied with smirk planted on his face.
"Oh shut up..." May said as she sat on the cloth. "Now, c'mon. Sit down and I will be giving you your gifts."
Drew followed her instruction and sat close to May. "So? What did you get?"
"First...this." She said as she brought out a jewelry box. She handed to him and Drew opened it.
"A rose necklace? This looks nice. Doesn't look too feminine at least. Thanks." Drew replied.
May took the necklace from the box and placed it around Drew's neck. She then plants a sneaky kiss on his cheek.
"I know it sounds cheesy, but I want you to have something that will always remind you of me. Whether you're here or at home in LaRousse." May said.
Drew blushed. "May..."
May then hid another object behind her back. She was acting quite nervous. "And Drew...I know you're busy and all, but I hope you don't mind the extra responsibility. Something for you take care of. Well...I guess we'll take care of it together. Umm..."
Drew's eyes were wide open. "May Maple, you know very well that we never did that. What do you mean by extra responsibility?!"
May let go of her bag. "I'm not pregnant, you grasshead. Sheesh. You know what...you better like this because I worked damn hard for this."
May handed him a Poké Ball.
"Wait...you got me a Pokémon?!" Drew said in surprise.
"No, I gave you cooties." May sarcastically replied.
"Ha...very funny."
Drew opened the Poké Ball to reveal a Roselia. However, there was something different about it.
"Rose! Roselia!" The Roselia cheered as it greeted its new trainer.
"Wait...its rose hands...black and purple? May? W-what? I love this so much!" Drew exclaimed as he hugged the brunette. He was grinning, something you don't see often.
"Glad you love it." May replied.
"Well...I guess I need to do something for your 16th as well. I mean...I know you'll have a Sweet Sixteen party in Petalburg, right?" Drew said he released his hold on May. He then started petting the Roselia.
"I guess. I know you wouldn't like it if we invited the whole school."
"Hey, it's your party."
"Hmm...honestly, I'll just invite some friends. No need for something too grand. Anyway...let's eat!"
