Chapter 15- By your side.

3rd person P.O.V:

Adrien and Marinette stood in the doorway of the Agreste mansion hand in hand, bidding their farewells. It was beginning to get late and although Adrien desperately wanted to walk Marinette home, his father would not allow it.

"Don't worry about me, Adrien. I'm a retired queen... I can look after myself" Marinette stated with a smile as she squeezed Adrien's hands lovingly. Adrien, picking up on Marinette's choice of words commented, perplexed. "Retired?... what do you mean?"

Marinette's eyes widened. She forgot- she forgot to tell Adrien that she had given up her place as Queen so she could be with him. "Well, um..." she began "I... I gave up my place as queen to my younger sister, Coral. She was the chosen one, the next in line for the throne"

Adrien didn't understand. "Why though? Don't you love the ocean?" Marinette's grip tightened on his warm, loving hands. "Of course" she half shouted without any hesitation. "I love it with all my heart-"

"Then why leave it? Why give up the thing you love-" Adrien interrupted Marinette before she quickly did the same. "Because I love you more. I want to be with you Adrien. What I'm doing? Being both with you and with them? It's strictly forbidden. I have to choose a life, and a life without you isn't worth living."

Adrien didn't know how to respond... she was giving up her title, her home... to be with him. "I love you, Marinette. I want you by my side... I need you by my side... I can't imagine what my life would be like without you in it." Adrien smiled.

"Probably a lot simpler" she teased and Adrien smirked "you're worth the effort" he gently leaned in and pressed his lips against her own. Soft, warm, sweet lips. After a few moments, they separated.

"Goodnight, Adrien" Marinette smiled as she took a step backwards. "Goodnight, Marinette" he whispered, too lost in the spell her sparkling diamond eyes had bestowed upon him.

Marinette swiftly turned her back to Adrien and made her way down the path and out the giant golden gates. Adrien shook his head and watched her leave, relishing in the kiss they had shared moments before and her beauty. Once she was out of his sight, he took a step back inside and shut the door.

Marinette's P.O.V:

I took on a steady pace towards the beach. 'Corals coronation would be coming up soon and I really need to be there to help with the preparations...' I thought to myself. Once reaching the sand I looked up at the docks and was hit with nostalgia. As if I was in a trance, my legs carried me to the docks, where I sat on the edge and looked down into the water, my feet barely hovering above the waves.

"Ladybug?..." a squeaky voice called out. Stunned, I looked around.

"Wow, it is you ladybug! You look so different!" The voice called out again, I looked down to the ocean and saw Tikki. My eyes widened with joy.

"Tikki!" Then worry and responsibility leapt onto my shoulders, making my stomach sink slightly. "Wait, what are you doing here? Where is Coral, is everything alright?" Tikki gestured for me to stop with her fins and crimson red tail.

"Wow wow wow, slow down there Ladybug. Coral is fine. I came looking for you!" I looked around, making sure no one was about to see a young girl talking to a red seahorse before turning back to Tikki. "Well then, what is the issue?..."

I watched as Tikki took a deep breath. "I made a promise with your mother. A promise to protect you, no matter what. So if you are to leave the ocean, I must come with you."

"But, Tikki-"

"I must stay by your side."

I stood in silence for a moment. She did make a promise and that means an awful lot to the fishfolk... how would she survive on land though?

"I must stay by your side" she repeated to me. I looked up at the sky for a moment before looking back down at Tikki.

"Okay"
