Chapter 18- Mermaids

Gabriel's P.O.V:

I sat in my office studying books. I had always theorised and acknowledged people's beliefs over the existence of mermaids, but never before had I actually seen one.

This information could help a multitude of people, especially with global warming and the ice capsules melting. If all our land is flooded and sinks to the bottom of the ocean, we could very easily go with it if we had the ability to become mermaids and-

My wife... she drowned in the ocean...

But what if she didn't?

What if she was turned into a mermaid? What if she is alive?!

I feel something that I haven't felt for a long time.

I feel hope.

Adrien's P.O.V:

As I lie in bed and stare at the ceiling, re-imagining today's events I listen to my father downstairs dropping books and mumbling rather loudly. I wonder what he's doing...

I go back to the vivid memories of today and smile to myself. I can't believe Marinette chose me over her kingdom, I can't believe my father approves of Marinette as my girlfriend, I can't believe how happy Nathalie was over me and Marinette, I can't believe we had a family dinner. I just can't get over how perfect today was.

I can't get over how perfect she made everything. I love her so much.

Nathalie's P.O.V:

I knocked on Mr. Agreste's door, perplexed by the ruckus that had been made from his study. I opened the door and entered before shutting it behind me.

"What is it Nathalie?" Gabriel asked from behind his desk, his eyes concentrating on the book before looking up at me. His sparkling eyes...

I shook my head and looked down to the ground slightly "well sir, there was a lot of noise coming from your study and I just wanted to check everything was alrig-"

"I'm fine, thank you Nathalie for checking. It means a great deal to me." Gabriel interrupted with a smile and I returned the favour before nodding. I opened the door and just as I was about to leave-

"Nathalie?" He called out. I looked back towards him. "Yes sir?"

"Can you order me some books on mermaids? Any sort, no Disney or Grimms brothers though... oh, and can you pick me up a croissant and soy latte from the bakery?" I checked the time... '7:30? Dear lord I had hardly slept...' I nodded. "Right away sir" and with that I left the room, closing the door behind me and being extremely careful not to slam it.

Immediately I was on the phone to librarians, addressing the need for books on mermaids and booking certain types. As soon as that was dealt with I headed to the door and grabbed my coat. It was starting to get cold since it was the build up to winter, so maybe I'd pick myself up a latte too, and Adrien a hot chocolate... Soon enough, I was out the door and headed towards the bakery, the scent as per usual was heavenly.

I opened the bakery door to hear the tingle of the bell. I stepped indoors, wiping my feet on the mat, and stood at the counter patiently. Marinette popped her head around the corner from the kitchen at the back of the bakery and rushed over.

"Nathalie! Good morning, I wasn't expecting someone this early, nevermind my boyfriends fathers assistant" she giggled and I smiled formally. "What can I get you?"

Marinette's P.O.V:

"2 soy lattes, a croissant and a hot chocolate please" Natalie announced clearly and I made a mental list.
I really shouldn't be here right now... its corals coronation in a couple hours... but we finished her hair and outfit and... no the bakery needs me. Now. Soy lattes and...

Hot chocolate... I know who that's for. Double whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles and marshmallows... just the way he likes it! I giggled lightly. "Coming right up!" I headed to the back and picked up one of the freshly baked croissants and decided to also pack another box with warm pain au chocolat's and freshly baked cookies.

Once they were packed I sorted out the drinks, which was fairly simple since we had a machine. Only Adrien's was made by hand... because that's how he preferred it. Two teaspoons of hot chocolate mix, one teaspoon of sugar, hot water, milk, stir... soy latte number one done in the machine! I took out the cup and put a lid on it before putting the next cup in the machine and continued making Adrien's drink. Squirty double whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, marshmallows and drizzled chocolate syrup on top, covered by the lid so Nathalie wouldn't expect a thing... perfection!

Once the second soy latte was finished I popped a lid onto it and carried the drinks (except for Adrien's) into the main bakery, placing them on the counter in front of Nathalie. I then turned and went back for the two boxes and Adrien's drink. Nathalie was stunned. "Don't worry, this other box is free of charge, it's a little present" Nathalie nodded.

"Well... I can't carry all these on my own..." I jumped at the chance. "Well I can help! Here, I'll take the hot chocolate and the two boxes!" I picked up the items and smiled and Nathalie did the same. My father popped his head around the door from the hallway leading upstairs and smiled "don't worry Marinette, we got this" my mum rushed down the stairs and threw on her apron and starting to get to work. I smiled and went towards the door with Nathalie, which was held open by my dad. "Thanks papa" I said graciously and my father nodded. "Let us know what time you're getting home at!" I nodded and headed with Nathalie to the Agreste lot.
