Meredith's POV
My poor baby is in surgery for her appendix and even though I'm a general surgeon I can't operate on her because she's my family.
"Arizona, you'll do this perfectly, right? I can't have her not survive this." I say.
"Meredith, it's an appy. It's an easy surgery. She'll be fine. Just sign here and I'll go scrub in." Arizona says. "Alex will give you and Nathan updates."
"Thanks." I say and me and Nathan drop the kids off at day care and we go to the attending lounge."Zola will be okay. It's a fast, easy surgery." Nathan says, running his hand along my back.
"Yeah but my intern year, George botched an appy and the patient almost died." I say, wiping away a tear. "That saying, that doctors make the worst patients, being the family of a patient as a doctor is worse. The suspense, uncertainty. It's horrible."
"Hey Alex. How is she?" Nathan asks.
"Arizona is still working, and she should be done soon." Alex says and leaves the room.Arizona's POV
"Crap. This isn't holding. Give me the stapler. Ugh why isn't this holding?" I mutter, or rather I scream in the OR. I'm operating on Zola, Meredith and Derek's daughter. Or now, Meredith and Nathan's daughter. Nothing, and I mean nothing can go wrong."Karev! I need your hands over here." I scream.
"What's wrong?" He says and rushes over.
We did around and then he says "we have to cut it farther back."
"You're right. Bohkey, forceps and scissors please." I say.
"Bohkey, 02 suture please." He says. "Ready when you are."We walk out of the OR and up to the attending lounge.
Meredith and Nathan stand, waiting the answer.
"She made it!" I say.
"Oh thank god. Thank you so much Arizona." Meredith says, hugging me.
"There was a complication though. The sutures wouldn't hold at first, but then Alex thought to cut back the stump of the secum a bit, and thay worked. She's in the ICU if you want to go see her. Room 2140." I say. They run out of the room with Alex and I sit down on a bench.
The door opens and I feel hands go down my arms.
"How was surgery?" Eliza asks.
"Good, I took Zola's appendix out. But she was giving me a hard time, we had to cut it back more because nothing was holding." I say.
"Well, you fixed the problem. Ready to go home?" She asks.
"Yeah. Let's go." I say. We walk passed the ICU after changing and I see Alex.
"Page me with updates." I say. He nods and goes back to watching Meredith and Nathan.Nathan's POV
Meredith is sitting on the bedside of her little girl, our little girl.
"Mommy? Where am I?" Zola asks, waking up.
"Hi honey. You needed a very small surgery to fix your appendix, and uncle Alex and Arizona got it fixed." She says.
"But where am I?"
"The ICU, for now before we can get you back to a Peds room." She says.
"Where's daddy?" Zola asks.
"I'm right here sweetie." I say.
"No! Derek daddy. I want Derek daddy!" Zola shouts.
"Zola. You cannot scream like that in the ICU. Derek daddy will come this weekend if you're still here then. But if not, he will visit at home." Meredith reprimands Zola.
"Okay mommy. Uncle alex, when can I go to kid room?" Zola asks."So about the wedding, do you want small with just a few friends, or bigger? I know you and Derek didn't have much, so I want you to have the option." I say.
"That's sweet of you. Let's do medium sized, friends, family, people at the hospital like interns and residents. They should be able to share in out happiness." Meredith says.
"Okay. When we get home we should make a list." I say.
"Actually, I have a legal pad in the lounge. Let me go get it." She says and goes to get it."Daddy?" Zola asks.
"What baby?"
"Mommy seems really happy. She says daddy Derek was her one great love, but from what I remember, before he left and fake died, they barely talked and fought all the time when he was not in DC. You make her happy." Zola says.
"Daddy Derek and mommy were fighting? I didn't know that. Do you know why?" I ask.
"Daddy Derek was never home and made work more important than family and friends. Don't hurt mom. She's been through enough pain." Zola says just as Meredith comes back.
"Rest, Zo. Are there any friends you want to invite?" I say.
"Sofia! And Tucker!" She says.
"Of course. Anyone else?" Meredith asks.
