A/N: Happy Mother's Day! And in honor of this day... Let's see what Meredith, Nathan and the kids are up to!
Zola's POV
"Mom! When can we go to the pool?" I ask.
"Soon honey. Let's get dressed with bathing suits under clothes, eat breakfast then we can swim." Mom says.
"Okay! Come on B!" I say to my brother. Bailey is really fun but since I'm older I can do more stuff.
"Zo! Wait up!" Bailey says as we run over to the suitcases and get our new bathing suits out. I slip mine on as does Bailey. We run back to Mom, who's putting on her bathing suit too.
"All set kids?" She says with a bottle of sunscreen. I hold my arms out as she slathers on the thick white cream. It feels really cold, especially on my back.
"Momma! I don't want it! It smells bad!" Bailey shouts, backing away.
I run up to him, slide my hand down my arm, gathering the sunscreen and I wipe it down his arm.
"B, if you don't wear this, then you will get sun burned and that really hurts." I say.
Bailey just nods and walks back over. Mom is warming her hands up before she puts it on him.
Bailey is making a face of disgust the entire time u too it's all absorbed into his skin.
"See? It's not too bad, right?" I ask.
"Not too bad. But it still smells bad." Bailey complains.
"Let go see how Daddy and Ellis are doing." I say. I pull Bailey over to the deck where I see Daddy and our baby sister, Ellis.
"Daddy, since today is Mother's Day, can we do something nice for mom?" I ask.
"Of course, honey. What did you have in mind?" Dad asks.Meredith's POV
I look over and see Zola, Bailey and Nathan talking while Zo is holding Ellis and Ellis is playing with Zola's hair. They look like they're plotting something.
I finish getting ready and by the time I'm done, they're ask standing there, Zola holding Ellis.
"Mer, come with us." Nathan says and takes my hand. He pulls me through the resort, the kid following.
"Where are we going?" I say slightly annoyed.
"Just a few more minutes. Okay, now close your eyes." Nathan instructs.
I close my eyes and I hear them running around.
"Okay Mom. You can open your eyes." Zola says.
I open my eyes and I see then standing there, roses and lavender flowers everywhere and candles and pancakes and waffles and a bowl of fruit and the four of them all lined up."Zo! B! Nathan, guys! This is so amazing! When did y'all have time to do this?" I say in amazement.
"Well, I was up before you woke up Mom, so I asked Daddy if we could do this and he said yes and so we got everything ready and I hope you like it." Zola says sweetly.
"Zo honey, I love it. Thank you so much!" I say and go over and hug her and B.
"Happy Mother's Day, Momma." Bailey whispers in my ear.
"Happy Mother's Day Mom." Zola says into my other ear.
"Thank you guys. This is so sweet." I say to the kids. I get up and look at Nathan.
He shrugs. "They're your kids."
"That is true. Hey Zo, B. How about you guys take El and eat some breakfast okay? I'm going to talk to daddy for a minute." I say and Nathan gives Ellis to Zola and she brings her and B to the table they set up and she serves herself and Bailey pancakes and syrup."Nathan, this is really their idea? You had no influence on it?" I ask.
"Well, Zola had the original idea, but she didn't plan this one." Nathan says and takes a breath. "I know this is fast, but I love you, Meredith Grey. I love your kids, I love our baby, and I promise to never leave. I'll do whatever it takes to make you happy. I'm not kidding. Literally anything. Well, within medical and legal boundaries. I'll wait for when you're ready, but I'll always be here for you."
"I'm speechless. I love you too. I want to take it slow, but I love knowing that you'll always be here. I just am not sure if I'm ready for that level of commitment yet. It's still fairly recent with Derek fake dying and-" I get stopped.
"I know, which is why I'll wait for when you're ready, however long that takes." Nathan says sweetly. I smile and we kiss.
"Eww!" Zola and Bailey squeal from the table. We break apart and laugh.
"Go back to eating, kids." Nathan says and kisses me again, soft and quick. Like a habit. We walk over to the table.
"I'd like to thank you, Zola and Bailey, for this amazing idea and making it come to life. You two are amazing and I'm so lucky to have you as my kids." I say, and stroke the tops of their heads.
"You're welcome, Momma." Bailey says.
"You're welcome Mom. I'm really glad you like it so much." Zola says and takes a bite of her pancake. We enjoy the day beside the pool, and swimming and splashing each other. Zola and Bailey have a splash fight, Nathan is playing with them, and I'm sitting on the steps with Ellis to make sure she doesn't drown.
"This was the most amazing day kids. Thank you so much." I say to my amazing and incredibly thoughtful kids.
"You're welcome Mom." Zola says and gives me a bear hug. "Mom, I can feel the bump!"
"Yeah. The baby isn't moving too much yet, not enough that you could feel it, but when the baby starts to move, you can feel it if you want." I say to my oldest.
"Really? That's so cool!" Zola says.
"Do you want to be a doctor?" I ask.
"Yeah! You and Daddy and dad Derek are all doctors! And Auntie Maggie and Auntie Amy! And Uncle Alex! You're all doctors! I wanna be one too!" Zola says giggling.
"I wanna be doctor too!" Bailey joins in. Ellis laughs at that.
"El! You laughed! Was that funny? Is your big brother funny?" I say tickling her stomach. She squeals again and spit comes out of her mouth. She's got this massive smile on her face and is laughing.
"You're so silly baby girl." Nathan says and takes Ellis from me.
"Babe." I complain. He gives her back. "We'll have another in six months, so you can get plenty of baby time."
"That's true. And little sleep. But I hope the little guy will be worth it." Nathan says.
"They always are. The pain and the waiting for them to arrive is sometimes stressful and very painful, but once they're here, it's the most intense feeling of love you could ever experience. With both Bailey and Ellis, it was so painful but when I got to see them and hold them for the first time, it was love at first sight. More than the best times with Derek, or with you. It's a truly magical experience." I say, and realize that my hand has been circling my tiny bump for the entire conversation.
"That sounds amazing." Nathan says.
"Yeah. Well, we should probably get the kids to bed, and then go to bed ourselves." I say.
"Yeah. I'll get the kids down, you get ready for bed." Nathan says and kisses my forehead. He gets the kids changed, and teeth brushed, and in bed. Within 15 minutes, they're out."Night honey. I love you." I say.
"I love you too." Nathan replies and we drift off to sleep, after the most amazing Mother's Day there could possibly be.
