A day or so past without Sarah hearing any news from Dan. She missed him so much and no matter how many times she tried to ring/text him, he never replied. He hadn't even told her when he was coming back which was pretty unusual of him as he always kept his phone on him.

Sarah had spent the lonely days wondering aimlessly around the house, hoping for the communication that never came. She had even tried emailing him, but didn't want to sound too desperate so hadn't sent it.

Late that night Sarah was making some dinner for herself, when she heard her phone ringing loudly on the kitchen table. She ran over to get it, over the moon to see it was Dan.

"Hey." He said.

"Hi, are you ok?" Sarah asked.

"Yeh fine. But Sarah I'm so sorry I'm going to have to still another two days, the meeting has been moved to tomorrow."

"Oh," Sarah replied, annoyed. "How come you haven't replied to my texts and calls?" She asked.

"You've been trying to get hold of me?" Dan asked.

"Yeh, numerous times." Sarah replied.

"Oh, I've been really busy haven't checked them yet.." Dan said unconvincingly. "Well anyway, better be off. Love you." His voice trailed off. "Love you too." Sarah replied but he had already gone. The phone call she had hoped would cheer her up just made her angry at Dan. He hadn't asked how she was or whether she was ok which really pissed her off.

Sarah tried with great difficulty to push the call to the back of her head and continued to make her tea. The oven began to sound, signalling it was ready. She burnt her hand whilst pulling the tray out without an oven glove, but she didn't care any more. She took a few bites of her tea, and couldn't manage much more, her head was spinning. For some reason she was unconvinced about Dan's excuse to stay in Glasgow for longer, something didn't seem right.

She reminded herself about the fact it was Bertie's funeral tomorrow, therefore she went up to her room to get her outfit ready. She found her smart black dress and heels and pulled out a jacket to keep her warm. She hung it up on her curtain rail to remove the small creases that had formed and decided to have an early night. Wearing her jeans and T-shirt she slumped into bed without changing. She didn't really care anymore.

She struggled to get to sleep. She was so angry at Dan. She didn't know whether she was just being clingy, but she couldn't help feeling this way.

Sarah awoke early in the morning to the sound of her neighbours dog loudly barking. She dragged herself out of bed and made her way into the bathroom to have a shower. The hot jet of water woke her up a bit more and made her look a little more presentable. She blow dried her hair and straightened it. After doing so she got herself dressed. she applied some mascara and a dash of lipstick to try and cover her badly chapped lips.

She made herself a coffee and some cereal. She had dreaded this day. Not only did she hate funerals, but she knew hardly anyone who would be there.

Melinda was picking her up soon so she waited in the living room for her to come. Her sleek silver car pulled up in the drive a few minutes later so Sarah walked outside.

"Hi." Melinda said opening the car window. She avoided making eye contact but opened the passenger car door for Sarah.

"Hello," Said Sarah as she slunk into the low seats of the car. It was obvious Melinda had been crying as her mascara was slightly smudged and her the area under her eyes were red.

The journey was long and strenuous as it was in Bertie's hometown. Even though they didn't live there any more Melinda wanted him to be buried there.

They didn't talk much which made the journey even more awkward. Sarah didn't know what to say and neither did Melinda. She felt somewhat angry with Sarah but didn't fully blame her, she had no idea what to say.

After what seemed like forever, they finally arrived at the church. Many people were waiting outside and stared at her as she walked in with Melinda. She chose a seat relatively near to the front and switched off her phone. Melinda was sat a few rows in front and kept looking back to check she was still there. An old lady sat down beside Sarah and smiled. Sarah had no idea who she was but she was glad that there was someone here who didn't blame her for his death.

The funeral seemed to drag on. Melinda broke down in tears a few times during her speech which made Sarah feel uneasy. She hadn't heard the hymns before and as she expected, didn't recognise many people.

Sarah arrived back at home that evening. She had left the after party prematurely and made up the excuse she had to pick up Dan from the station.

Her home seemed just as empty as before and her heart throbbed from missing Dan. She switched on her phone hoping for a message but one never came. She went to her room and sat at her desk. She refreshed her messages so many times that she lost all hope. She resorted to looking at his Instagram to see if he had posted recently. He posted a photo one hour ago of him sitting next to a girl in a park. Sarah felt another surge of heartache drowning her body, realising he probably wasn't missing her. She tried to put it to the back of her mind, but the matter was highlighted again when she saw he had posted a vine with her too.

The girl had long blonde curly hair and was wearing a white flowery dress. She looked stunning which made Sarah feel even more insecure. As she watched the vine of the two pillow fighting in a hotel room, her heart sank even more. Then the thing Sarah dreaded the most occurred, Dan kissed her.

Was he cheating on her?
