Sarah followed the lady into the room. They passed through a door and they were there. The lifeless body lying there, under the pristine white shroud. She composed herself and nodded as the lady drew back the cloth to reveal the face.

Sarah stood there, shocked at what she saw. It wasn't Dan, it was Bertie. She didn't know what to say or feel. Part of her was totally relieved that Dan was still alive, yet another part of her was devastated due to the fact her first ever boyfriend was now gone.

"It's not him." She cried. Not knowing what else to say.

"Really? Apparently he told the police where his girlfriend(you) lived before he died." She revealed.

"He's my ex boyfriend." she weeped, thinking about how mean she had been to him beforehand.

"Oh I see." Said the lady unsure of what to say. "Can you confirm this is Bertie Gilbert though."

"Yes." Replied Sarah as she studied his flowing blonde-ish coloured hair.

The lady then allowed Sarah to have a few moments with Bertie. She sat on the seat beside the table and stared. Her feelings were still confused.

"I'm sorry." She burst out. "I didn't mean it to end like this." Her tears tripped onto the sheet covering his torso. Bertie remained lifeless, his once bright eyes now closed and his usual glowing complexion now drained of colour. Sarah spent a few more minutes just talking to the body before she saw the lady reappear on the other side of the glass window.

Sarah stood up and left the room. She caught one lat glimpse of the man who once was the love of her life and walked through the wooden door. She wondered whether Bertie's mum knew about what had happened. She really didn't want to make the phone call as it would just make her feel worse than she already did.

"Does his mum know?" Sarah questioned.

"Yes, she's in Tenerife, but she's getting the soonest flight back." Sarah was relieved.

She was dismissed by the lady and therefore she made her way out of the hospital. She got on the bus that pulled up as she arrived at the stop. However she got off early as she needed some fresh air to clear her mind.

She walked slowly along the pavement, cars sped past her as she stared at the ground. She walked for about half an hour before she arrived back at her house. She had avoided taken the path that went past the scene of the accident as it would just clutter her now clean memory with more thoughts.

She walked up the drive to see her front door wide open. As she entered the house she could her Dan speaking loudly into his phone. She soon realised he was leaving a message on her answer phone as she had turned off her phone. He was stopped in his tracks when he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around to see Sarah standing in the open hallway.

"Sarah!" Shouted Dan angrily, "Where the hell have you been." He was obviously worried about her.

Sarah ran up to him and embraced him with open arms.

"I thought you were dead." She began to cry again. "Oh Dan."

"Woa- wait, what happened?!" Dan was confused.

"I need a sit down." She admitted. Dan fetched her a coffee from the newly boiled kettle and joined her on the sofa in the living room.

"Tell me what happened." He said as he slumped down onto the sofa. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him.

Sarah explained the whole story to Dan. She tried to hide her emotions, but Dan understood what she was feeling so she let them flow. After finishing the sequence of events Dan offered to make her some tea. She was starving and was in no state to cook anything herself.

Dan soon arrived in the living room with two plates filled with a pasta and pesto sauce dish.

"Thank you, you're the best." She said as she grabbed the plate. He ran back into the kitchen and brought back two beers for the both of them. Dan returned to his position on the sofa and they ate their dinner together, watching TV.

After finishing their meals Dan went back into the kitchen to wash the plates. When he returned Sarah had drifted into a deep sleep, her head gently rested on one of the soft cushions on the sofa. Dan smiled, she looked so peaceful considering the day she had just had.

After sitting next to her sleeping body for a while, Dan decided he should probably take her to bed. He cupped his arms under her legs and let her back rest on his arms. He slowly carried her up the stairs, making sure he made no sudden movements that would awaken her.

He peeled the covers off her bed slightly and lay her down on the mattress. He tucked her in and planted a kiss on her forehead. Just as he was about to go back downstairs he heard another knock at the door. Hoping Sarah hadn't woken up, he proceeded to walk back downstairs.

He opened up the front door to be greeted by an unfamiliar figure who he didn't recognise.
