"Mr. Owens, you have a visitor," the nurse enters before me letting him know just like the last time I was here. He nods his head at her not removing his attention from the TV. I step into the room and take a seat in the same chair from my last visit.
The nurse steps out shutting the door behind her and Ethan's eyes focus on me. He seems surprised to see me here again, especially alone. I give him a tight smile and he continues to stare at me with his eyebrows furrowed.
"What are you doing here?" He breaks the awkward silence.
"I wanted to see how you were doing," I reply to which he just rolls his eyes."What happened?" I ask referring to the accident. He sighs turning off the TV and turning towards me.
"Why do you care?" He scoffs.
"Because whatever happened could have gotten you killed," I defend. He remains quiet as if contemplating whether to explain or not.
"Well the night of the dance, I was pissed and I went to Rachel's house," he recalled the night. "We fucked and then I drank a lot and left, next thing I know my car's flipping over." He shrugged. I nod replaying his very brief explanation through my mind, something didn't add up.
"Why were you mad?" I ask.
"Well for starters I fought Edwards, then I..." he drifts off not finishing his sentence.
"Then you what?"
"I-i don't wanna talk about it," his mood shifts to one of annoyance. His jaw was now clenched and his tone was blunt.
"Etha-"
"I said I don't wanna talk about it," he spits standing from his bed and walking to the TV stand to retrieve a water bottle. He opens it, standing against the door of the room and taking a sip. I follow him and stand across from him not letting this topic go.
"Ethan why were you mad?" I try asking again this time raising my voice.
"Aria I said I didn-"
"Ethan look at where it got you! You're in the fucking hospital so whatever it was you have to-"
"It was you!" He shouts making me shut up.
"What do you mean it was me?" He opens his mouth to speak but is cut off by a knock on the door. Ethan steps away opening it to reveal Rachel, who immediately connected her lips to his. I can't stop the feeling of annoyance that comes over me at the sight of the two. Why did I feel like this? He was quick to push her away and wipe his mouth before turning back to me.
"I think I should go," I mumble making my way out the door not giving him time to respond. I walk down the wide aisles my heels clicking against the ceramic tile. I check out at the front desk before marching to my car. My mind could not let go of his previous words. What did they mean?
[Ethan]
"Why are you here?" I mumbled to Rachel annoyed that she interrupted my moment with Aria. I was about to confess and be done with all these bottled up emotions until she ruined it.
"I wanted to check on you," she shrugs and I roll my eyes. Didn't the night of the dance served as a hint that I wasn't interested in her?
"Did you forget what I said the night of the dance?" I give her a cold glare.
"You were angry and drunk," She says. "You didn't mean any of those things." It sounded as if she were trying to convince herself more of that and I roll my eyes again at how shallow and oblivious she was.
"So how are you feeling?" She asks almost seductively as she lays her hand on my chest. I push her away from me and scowl.
"Rachel, I was serious when I said those things. You were just a good fuck and I don't want you, I never will. How many times do I have to say it before you finally understand?" Her smile drops and she balls her hands into fists.
