I was speechless. Mason wanted to marry me. I so badly wanted to say yes, but deep down there was something keeping me from agreeing. I was scared. Scared that he'd change his mind later on and fall out of love. I pushed those thoughts to the side knowing that Mason loved me as much as I loved him."Yes," I nod, wiping the tears off of my now blotchy face. Mason stood back up, a massive smile on his face as he kissed my lips passionately before slipping the ring onto my left ring finger. I gaped at the diamond that now sat on my finger, it was huge.
I knew we were still young, and we both wanted to go to college, but I was going to marry Mason. Our friends clapped and cheered before running and hugging each of us, congratulating us both.
I was engaged at 17.

After the rest of the gifts were opened, we each returned to our own families.
I approached the doorstep to my house, my fingers interlocked with Mason's. As we enter the house, my father is the first to greet us and I can't help the rush of nerves that comes over me. What is he going to think? His only child is engaged at 17.
"Mija!" He hugged me, placing a kiss on the top of my head before moving hugging Mason.
"Where's mom?" I ask needing to talk to the both of them.
"In the kitchen, let me get her," he replies before leaving us to fetch my mother.
My foot was tapping impatiently on the floor which was weird considering I was terrified to see what their reaction to our engagement would be.
My parents approached us and I suggested we step into one of the guest rooms to talk.
They sat on the foot of the bed while Mason and I stood before them.
"Mom, dad." I smiled trying to lighten the mood. "We have to tell you something." They both nod, giving us their undivided attention. I close my eyes bracing myself for their possible reactions. "We're engaged."
I open my eyes when I don't hear a sound only to see my parents' faces holding an ecstatic expression.
"Hay Dios mío (Oh my God)!" My mom squeals in disbelief. "My baby's getting married!" I look at my dad who has a grin on his face as he nods at Mason.
"To be completely honest, Mason already asked for my blessing." He chuckles giving away the fact that he already knew. I turned to Mason, smiling at him before pecking his cheek and turning back to my parents.
"So when's the wedding?" My mother asks excitedly. "Will it be a summer wedding because I'm thinking on the be-"
"Mom I still want to go to college," I laugh at how excited she was. "But we'll have the wedding after my sophomore year," I interlock my fingers with Mason's, gazing up at the huge smile he was flashing. Man, this is my fiancé.
They both nodded in response, hugging the both of us before we all returned to our family and friends. We all sat at the dinner table, Mason sitting next to me while his hand rested on my thigh.
We announced the news to our family, everyone going insane and congratulating us. I couldn't have been happier with everyone's acceptance.
After opening even more gifts with our families, I decided to go to bed. Mason walked me up to my room, shutting the door behind him. He sat next to me on the edge of my bed while he unstrapped my heels, setting them on the floor.
I laid back on my bed, too lazy to change out of my dress and remove my makeup. Seconds after, I flinch as something wet is swiped across my face. I look up to see Mason hovering over me as he focuses on wiping off my makeup, making sure everything is clean.
