Standing in the royal dining hall, you stared into the wine glass that reflected your face, no matter how many times or how long you stared, you never saw the person you wanted.
Doflamingo kept to his word, after discovering your abilities, he immediately phoned up Ceasar and demanded him to start developing a cure, even if you both knew it was futile, you never told him he was just wasting time the scientist could be using in making more SMILE, that would just frustrate him even more.
Of course the king also told the others of your situation, threatening just about everyone who tried to tell him how unnecessary he was being, you've survived long before he found about all this.
But his efforts didn't stop there, he hid you away from the rest of the country, never did you leave the palace, every one in the family avoided you like the plague, terrified Doffy might think they weren't being cautious enough around you.
The gentleness that you used to love was now creating scars you never could imagine, it was driving you to a breaking point, at first you tried to live with it, you were the only person who mattered to him after all, but now you were slowly giving into the dark thoughts in your mind.
He never touched you anymore, keeping it only to light brushes on the arms and rubs to the cheeks, he refused to even sleep in the same bed as you anymore, too afraid that he might lay on top of you and shatter something important.
In that wine glass, you saw a lonely, defeated woman, one who was losing her joy in life.
You stiffened as your mind started to muddle, frowning when the taunting voices that took up that lonely spot in your heart returned, even if they did plague you constantly, at least when they were around you didn't need to hear the endless ringing of silence.
'Why are you still here?'
'Hehe, just shatter already like the delicate glass doll you really are'
'What's the point in living with that man when he doesn't even love you the same way anymore?'
'He wants to protect you from everything'
'But...'
'He can't protect you..'
'From yourself, right?'
That last voice set something off in your mind, like a brittle twig finally snapping from the force of the wind, you silently gasped when the wine glass slipped from your fingers, rushing out of the room only to her a weak sound of shattering behind you.
Not even caring when you accidentally stumbled or rammed your arm into the wall, even when you tripped and smashed your cheek onto the floor, the pain was nonexistent, it didn't matter anymore, nothing mattered anymore at all, you were going to end it.
As if the voices knew exactly what you were planning on doing, they all cackled in glee, excitedly whispered in your ears, chanting louder and louder the closer you got to your destination.
'SHATTER'
Ripping open the door to your room, you stomped right past it, ignoring the many letters on the walls, letters written by your husband, apologies and love notes, whenever he didn't feel the need to come to you from whatever island he was messing on.
'SHATTER'
Yanking on the handle to the balcony before tearing it open, you didn't even notice the cracks and scratches that formed on your fingers from the rushed act, your mind was too filled with the voices, too filled with deluded happiness, it was all going to be over soon.
'SHATTER'
An insane smile painted itself onto your features, looking like a mirror to the one often found on your lover's, but you didn't even notice it as you hastily hoisted yourself up onto the rails, tears now cascading down your cracked cheeks.
'SHATTER'
Looking down to the world below, you felt your chest swell at the sight of the many yellow flowers below, covering the whole field, a stray thought arouse, making you wonder what it would feel like to crash down upon them in a moment, even beyond the field you sighted hints of the town, knowing people down there were living out their happily ignorant lives.
'SHATTER'
Listening to the voices, you lifted you head up, smiling at the clouds above, feeling your body go limp, you closed your eyes, exhaling calmly, knowing all your pain was about to disappear in mere seconds, like how long it was going to take you to be reduced to mere shards.
Hearing nothing but silence, you kept your eyes closed, waiting for something to change, a shock of pain, the sound of smashing, everything to dissipate into nothing, anything.
But it just remained silent.
Frowning at the lack of action, you opened your eyes and froze in disbelief, Doflamingo was suddenly right there, carrying you within his protective arms, holding you for the first time in months, crying.
His glasses were gone, you sighted them on the grassy ground, guessing that he dived down to save you and they just so happened to have fell off, but that wasn't what you were focused on now.
With your insane grin still plastered on your face, looking him in his teary brown eyes, you gave him your question, "why did you do that? I want to shatter" your voice was giddy, the happiest you've been in weeks on end, delusional.
But he was the exact opposite when he suddenly started to shake with silent sobs, "n-no (Y/N) w-why? Please I want to p-protect you" it was alien to you in your broken mind, why did the man that did this to you want to stop you like that? It was his fault.
"I feel empty, I want to shatter, let me shatter" your answer was blunt and straightforward, you didn't want to exist anymore, you were nothing but a hindrance, to him and to yourself.
Not thinking that he would do anything else but what you asked, you felt your body shake when he desperately caught you in a kiss, not even caring that his lips were being shredded by your own, you felt a forgotten warmth swell into your heart.
This kiss was what you've been waiting for this whole time, it was full of destructive passion and unhindered love and it was all your's, feeling tears dribble down the uneven surfaces of your cheeks, you returned the kiss and crazily laughed in joy with the same passion, ignoring the increasing pain as he roughly coiled his arms around you.
Feeling the pain make you lightheaded, you only continued on, taking all he was holding back, laughing till your lugs burned out, until your mind started to muddle, your ears started to ring.
Doflamingo pulled back from the kiss, tears falling like a waterfall as his beloved wife crumbled before him, slowly breaking down into nothing but a pile of crystalline shards, looking up to the heavens he screamed in a burst of enraged agony, finally crying out all the pain he buried since childhood, why couldn't he love her properly? Why couldn't he know how to take care of her? Because if he did then she wouldn't have
SHATTERED.
