CHAPTER 7: THE LOSING END

Sarah’s POV:  

After Gerald’s scene at their table, she tried her best to control her temper and build up emotions. She owes it to Ian he is nothing but good to her. She was still staring at her plate doing nothing when he heard Ian tell her something.

Sarah: What again? Sorry I spaced out. She told him in an apologizing tone.

Ian: I am sorry to intrude, Sarah. But I think you need to let it out. I can lend my ear you know. He softly said to her and gave her a soft and reassuring smile while he touched her hand which is resting on top of the table.

Sarah: It is complicated; I don’t think you will understand the situation. She shyly told him.

Ian: Try me, then. He challenged her.

Sarah: It’s a long story, it might bore you. She told him with a resigned voice.

Ian: Let’s start eating our dinner and while eating tell me about it. Sige na I know you need someone to talk to and I am here, ready to listen. Fire away! He told her with a comforting voice that you can’t resist.

Sarah: He is my boyfriend. She softly said and gave him a sad smile before picking on her food and pop it to her mouth.

Ian: You mean, you are the number two? Sorry but that is the impression that I got. Don’t worry I am a liberal minded person. I understand. He hesitantly told her.

Sarah: Is it funny to say that I am the real girlfriend.  She answered him with a sarcastic smile on her face.

Ian: You lost me there for a while. He told her obviously confused.

Sarah just laughed at him and shook her head.

Sarah: I am the girlfriend but he recently learned that he got her ex girlfriend pregnant. Is that simple enough to understand now? He asked him in a shaky voice and teary eyes.

Ian: I got it and I understand. I am a single father and somewhat I can relate with the situation.

Sarah just smiled at him and continued with her food.

Ian: Do you love him that much for you to stay? He asked her gently.

Sarah raised her head and looked at him. She was speechless for awhile but she did answer him.

Sarah: Love is sometimes like that…. She tentatively answered him with eyes starting to tear up.

Ian: Is Love enough, Sarah? How about pride and self respect?

Sarah: I long lost that, Ian. She said with an obvious pain in her voice.

Ian: Look around you Sarah, life is simple; it is us who makes it complicated. Same with love, Sarah, same with love, he told her with a soft and comforting voice.

She just smiled at him as gesture of appreciation and said

Sarah: Thanks for lending an ear.

Ian: My pleasure, Sarah! If you need one again, it will always be ready. He told her with a sweet tone.

Sarah: Thanks.

Ian: So ano your done na?

Sarah: Yah, I am done. Ikaw?

Ian: Am good. Dessert you want?

Sarah: No, I am full already. Thanks for asking though.

Ian: Ok how about Coffee?

Sarah laughed at him and said

Sarah: Naku Ian, are you subtly telling me na ayaw mo pa ako umuwi.
