CHAPTER 20: HOLDING ON

Sarah’s POV:

After the presentation and meeting, she went back to her office, she just decided to take her lunch there, and review some documents for the other accounts her team is handling. She was still somewhat annoyed at herself, why do I have to feel this way? She keeps on asking herself.

She  is retrieving her sandwich from her lunch bag when her phone suddenly rang.   

“Hello, Thank you for calling, Sarah speaking, how I may help you.”  She answered with her usual speil.

 Hi, Honey.  Ian said at the other line.

“Hi Hon, bakit ka na patawag?” She casually asked her fiancé.

I just want to ask you about your presentation, how was it? Ian asked her sweetly.

“Okay naman Hon, my team did great.” She answered him offhandedly.

Is Gerald, giving you a hard time, hon? Ian asked her obviously trying to contain a normal voice.

“He is okay, hon, his business like, nothing else. And why are you asking about him, hon?” She asked him making sure that her tone is light and teasing. Her fiancé seemed to be a little frantic about her working with no less than Mr. Gerald Anderson.

She heard Ian taking a deep breath before saying,

 I’am worried about you, that’s all. He said somewhat infuriated.

Sarah, was trying to understand, where Ian is coming from, she does not want him in any sense doubt her feelings for him but how can she do that if she herself is having a hard time understanding her own feelings.

“Babe, look you don’t have to worry about me ok, we are getting married in a few months time. Huwag ka na magworry.” She told him securely.

She was surprised when Ian suddenly asked her,

What did you just call me? He irritably snaped at her.

“Huh, I said hon.” She defensively answered him.

You, said babe, Sarah. Ian retorted back at her.

“Ian, it is just a slip of the tongue, don’t make a big deal about it.” She somewhat apologetically told him.

“Why don’t you just take your lunch first, hon and forget about Gerald.” She added.

Ian seemed to control his frustration and said,

You too, eat your lunch. I will pick you up after work. He said hurriedly and ended the call.

She was still taken aback by Ian’s outburst and was almost teary eyed, when George suddenly entered her office and said,

Everything okay, kiddo?

“Yah, do you need something from me George?” She asked him softly and tried to control the tears which are starting to flow from her eyes.

George seems to noticed her wretchedness and approached her and said,

Are you having a hard time working with him, Sars? Do you want me to cover for you with this project? He asked her deep concern evident in his tone. He then tapped  her hand which is rested on top of her table.

“I can carry on, George; I just had a misunderstanding with Ian. You don’t have to worry about the project and Gerald. This had nothing to do with him and the project. She wearyly explained to him.

If you say so, Sars.  George softly told her and gave her a light smile.

“Thanks, George.” She said and smiled at him.
