CHAPTER 16: BOLT FROM THE BLUE

A month AfterThe Proposal

She was concentrating on sourcing for a high level requirement when, George, her boss burst into her office and sat at the chair infront of her table.

Sarah, we have a new project with one of our former client. He announced to her in his normal stern voice.

“Okay, so would my team be handling the account? What company by the way? She asked her boss nonchalantly.

Would I be here infront of you, if  you are not incharge of the account. Her usually sarcastic boss told her.

“Ok fine, lay down the cards to me, George, I am listening.” She calmly countered to him.

A Software IT Company in Ortigas is launching their Shared Services Arm within this year and they actually wanted us to head start their recruitment.” Her boss initially explained to her.

“Alright so, how many headcounts would they be requiring and give me the timeline” She sweetly asked her boss as she can already feel that she is in for another one hell of a project.

150 headcounts for various requirments mostly IT and Customer Service related positions, timeline is around October, onboarding will be by December. George told her nonchanlantly.

“Okay, I have two months to fill 150 headcounts, thanks for being fair, George.” She sarcastically told her boss.

Her boss just smiled at her, the usual smile he uses when he is convincing her that amidst the timeline, he is confident that she can deliver.

“Alright, may magagawa ba ako, parang pirmado na ang contrata eh.” She told him resignedly.

Oh, Sarah you know me too well. That is why I trust you. He told her convincingly.

“Okay George, enough of the toying around, what company is it, and when would we meet the client?” She asked him with her usual stern voice when she is pissed off with her boss sarcasm tricks.

Meeting is today, company is still confidential as they don’t want their overseas counterparts to know about the Shared Services Project, for the employees not to be alarmed. He boss explained to him.

“Okay, George let us get this issue clear, we will be meeting with the client today, presumably you will asked me to present for them right?” She asked him with controlled annoyance.

Yes, just your typical shared services presentation, it is just an initial meeting detailed presentation will be done later on. Her boss told her casually.

“Okay, so that is clear, pero George paano ako magprepresent kung hindi ko kilala yung company, and don’t give me that excuse of course I will make sure that this project is confidential, so tell me the company.”

You will know later  at around 11 am, I will fetch you here around 10 and will go straight to their office. Her boss nonchalantly advised her.

“Okay, sige secret ang name ng company, who will we be meeting then?” She asked her voice obviously pissed of now.

We will be meeting their Big Boss, the Executive that will be incharge of the Shared Services and the HR Business Partner.

“Alright, are they all expats? And George, have you heard of the word Names?" She sarcastically countered to him.

The big boss is the only expat; the other two will be  Filipinos. He told her in somewhat bored voice.

“Names, George, I need names?” She asked him annoyingly.

You will know later on, as I said lets keep the details confidential for now. Her boss reiterated to her.

“Okay, might as well go blind, I have to prepare for a presentation without knowing what company and who will I be presenting for. Thanks, George you are a big help.” She told him with a sarcastic smile plastered on her face.
