Chapter 48: Eat It Or Wear It

Today the kids had a surprise waiting for Zac and me outside on the back porch. I didn't know what it was or even what it might be.

"Mommy, are you almost ready?!" Melanie called to me from upstairs.

"Yes! I'm ready now, Mel!" I called back.

"Okay!" She came bounding down the stairs and then ran outside. Then Brennan, Nelle, and Zac went outside as well. I opened the sliding glass door and stepped out into the warm spring air. I inhaled through my nose taking in the scent of freshly blooming flowers and dew-painted grass.

"Hey angel, you ready?" Zac asked coming over to me and kissing my cheek.

"I guess so!" I smiled at him and kissed his lips quickly.

"Alright Mommy, here's the camera, all setup. Here's the surprise under this sheet. Ready?" Melanie asked me smiling proudly.

"Yep, go ahead!" I said smiling too. In one swift motion, she threw off the sheet exposing a bunch of canned foods and condiments.

"What in the hell is this for?" I chuckled. Zac turned to me with the biggest grin on his face.

"Eat it... or wear it!!!" He sang.

"Ohhh nooo! Is that why I'm wearing your clothes Zac?" I asked him.

"Yep, that's why!" He said happily.

"Ugh fine, but do we really have to film it?" I asked,

"Yes! It's gonna go on youtube!" Nelle said excitedly.

"Oh great, everyone can see Taylor Schilling get covered in food, nice," I said sarcastically.

"Yeah! See!? The fun is just beginning, Mommy!" Brennan said.

"Alright, alright, I'll do it!" I said finally giving in. "Lemme just put my hair up first," I finished.

"No no no, lemme do it!" Zac said gently taking the ponytail holder off of my wrist where it usually is on a daily basis.

He pulled my hair up into a ponytail and secured it on top of my head. Then he smoothed out the bumps and tightened the ponytail.

"There you go, all done," he said proudly.

"Thanks," I chuckled. He for some reason loved doing my hair for me. It was like he wanted to take care of me in every way possible.

"Alright, let's get this goin'!" Melanie said as she turned the camera on. She got in front of it and did the intro for the video.

"Hey guys, it's me, Melanie! Today we are filming a really fun, and messy video. It's called the...Eat it Or Wear It Challenge! I've seen a lot of people do this on youtube and I finally got the chance to get someone to do it. Obviously not me because I hate getting dirty! So, here I have my Mom," she came over to me and put her hands gently on my shoulders. I smiled at the camera and then she moved over to Zac and did the same. "and my Dad," she said. "So there are twelve items. We have six good ones or at least ones that you could probably stomach, and then six bad ones that are hard to eat and, or swallow. In this glass bowl," she held the bowl up. "There are numbers on these little slips of paper. They are numbered one through 12. So, my Mom will pick one and whatever number she gets, she has to take a heaping spoonful of the ingredient and either swallow it all or spit it out and wear the whole can of it. So let's start!" She finished.

"So, I'm guessing I'm going first?" I asked.

"If you want," Zac started. "Or I can go first," he finished.
