I hop back as it spreads arms of sharp shadows and molds them into all sorts of shapes in attempt to injure or better yet, kill me. Instantly pushing my feet in through the snow, to use the force from my escape to add power into my strike at its right thigh; were its red soul of pain glows solemnly. Light as the sword is, I simply swing it and it squeals and scrapes on the shadowy opponent.
Shit! I can't seem to break through its black shell with Kol!
Then there's a heat from the Key, it burns my chest and I gasp from shock. A warm burning sensation reaches down from the Key through my chest, right shoulder, all down my right arm, and smolders out through my fingertips into Kol.
What is happening?
This is the brother of Siron's soul, and I have a soul of the wizard who keeps Siron locked away in a Key round my neck, are they somehow communicating? I have no idea what's going on!
For now I'll just have to evade the strikes, all we were supposed to do in the first place was distract them anyways until they help Blaze enough that we can make a solid exit away from the ravenous creatures lurking in the pools of blood they spill.
I must admit my skin burning is distracting though. Why does it hurt? Is it because of Siron's connection that's so close and tight to the Key, that Kol's soul is reacting to Siron's presence in a way?
BAM!
Red and black light from some sort of aura if I had to guess bursts from the blade and I scream from the searing pains. Voices screech and cry in my head, I feel my skull will burst into tiny shards. My heart is either pumping loud and fast or has ceased, maybe time has slowed or stopped, I cannot tell. Pain shackles me to gravity and into the forgiving snows at my feet.
The first thought I have amongst the noise inside is I will die laying here unable to move like this.
After who knows how long, I come too, and instead of my vision blinded with darkness its steadier and clearer than before, sharp and ceaseless. I control my gaze, yet something tells me where to look, as some sort of instinct perhaps. Confused and bewildered, again, I some how know what to do and where to go, how to evade and to where.
Kol is far lighter, lighter than any feather, I feel I am holding and swinging a shadow. A darkness smoldering beneath my mind; as when you cook with a pot over a fire, licking at it but without greed. A blue light I can see, or feel? I just know it's there, a speck in the fire. In front of my eyes a Blue Morpho butterfly flashes and is gone at once. Why?
I have so many questions but must wait. Kol seems to be guiding me?
An urge to strike the right thigh beholds me, and so I follow it in a trust I have not known, taking the risk, sensing I will be able to do it. The blade snaps through the leg and splits the soul in half perfectly, easier than water seeps out from a hole in its container. That red soul stained with pain and greed, wrath and envy, lust and pride, it flashes gold, silver, then green and blue before being vanquished; when the soul from the Mortubrae changes, that blue light in the embers of my mind inflames before simmering down again.
What is happening? What is happening to my mind? My body?
A line red like blood, solidly outlined in my skin with gold specks lines perfectly down my arm from each of my fingers and up to the Key and my heart. At the touch it radiates warmth of a well fueled fire. The Key is magnetized to my skin and will not budge.
Confused but determined, I decide to use this to kill the rest of them off while this lasts.
Hester is struggling and the sword directs me, she said left paw earlier, so I make the decisions to slash the paw off the Mortubrae's leg. Leaping, higher than ever, more swiftly and exact, I dive back down and use all my strength, it comes off easily again. It had had its leg up ready to strike down upon Hester just now.
The paw falls and fades away gently, the soul shining red turns gold, silver, and green before becoming electroplated in pure golds.
Three down, two to go.
The fifth has returned but not with more Mortubrae thank goodness. I swoop over to it and decapitate it, black blood I did not know they had spatters my face as the skull hits the ground and evaporates. Still the beast strikes at me.
Something leads me to believing this ones soul is in its stomach. I slide beneath it and shred it open, jumping away to avoid piles of black blood from suffocating me. The body filters off to nonexistence along with the blood. The red soul flashes gold, silver, green and then becomes a glimpse of the ocean, again this one is gone too.
Aegis finishes his off right then but the soul does not change colour.
Gazing at the sword, it still emits a strange demonic light, evils from Siron as I recognize it to be, yet it is different, not as overwhelming or dark, as though that blue ember is a bubble or shield from the fires of the presence. The voices have faded away ultimately and there's a strange pit in my chest.
Again and again I run a finger slowly over the red line coloured of blood so straight like something man made, but it doesn't even move when the skin does, nor does it do anything to my finger with a touch.
A pulse from the Key shivers down the line to the sword when there's a tug at me to approach Rin helpless on the ground. This is an urge to kill. One I recognize, identical to Siron's.
