Genesis sets off in search of a scent, though I know it is highly unlikely she will until the smokey smell clears out gradually. Rin paces, brows furrowed and eyes lit with conflict, I watch her walking here and there, a circle there and zig zag there and find my mind wandering over to admiring her beauty. She really has left me out of her priorities by far. her anxiety catches and clings to my frayed edges and I hate to see her stress and restlessness.
Once in a while I stare over Phoneix and inspect his woundless body, searching to make sure he is still okay, that is when my senses subconsciously notice Rin's feet have stopped for the first time yet. This is quite the oddity so without hesitation, I glance up at her and spot her confusion immediately with a pinch of curiosity.
My eyes follow her gaze to see a dot of brown moving in the distant treeline. I stand and ready Kol, getting set for battle. Light feet, springy joints, relaxed, malleable muscles, sharp, focused eyes, heightened hearing. Rin gasps slightly and startles me.
"What is it?" I ask as she stares at my eyes strangely.
"Claire! Your eyes," she starts but fades away.
"What?" now I start to think she needs some food, water, and a proper rest.
"They are glowing like gold," she trails off lightly.
"What on Earth are you talking about Rin," I sigh and shake my head, refocussing and gaining more concentration back to the growing brown blob in the trees still, walking very placidly. She says no more so I concentrate on the coming threat. "Stay here," I give her an intense look to make sure she will listen and she nods in understanding.
Cautiously I begin to walk towards what or whoever is there and make it obvious I have a weapon. Soon I can make out that it is a Human in a cloak, possibly a Luzumi because of the cloaks camo, and long brown hair a serious and stern face. We meet halfway after I have long ago realized this to be Aegis. What is he doing here? How did he find us? Why is he here? Did something happen?
"Why are you here? How did you find us?" I inquire after he keeps walking without greeting me, it is then I remember my hair remains matted with blood and my skin drenched in it.
"To help Phoenix, and we weren't too far away, we could hear the fighting and feel the Imzana too," he plainly states as though it is indeed a well-known fact.
"Right...of course...but Phoenix is simply drained, right?" Now doubts float into my mind and I begin to imagine what I could have missed, I completely forgot about the internal factor like an idiot.
"We will find out, but you won't be able to go on for an entire day if I don't help him recover," Aegis elaborates and I suddenly understand better.
"Oh okay, that makes sense, I guess," our conversation is muted and soft as we further approach and Rin waves to Aegis, who curtly waves back. We stand at his side as he kneels next to Phoenix and inspects him thoroughly.
"What is he doing here? How could he have found us, and how did he know when to come!" Rin is in surprise and disbelief of his presence.
"He says they were close by and heard the fight so he came to check up I guess and also that Phoneix needs to be healed or else he will need a days rest, as to how he knew when we needed him, I do not know." We stand side by side watching as a gold-green light flickers out of his palms.
How does Rin still not see that Hester left for a reason and didn't just get lost, that she doesn't want to be found? Of course, I understand that it's all because of love, but, I don't seem to fully understand such a concept as my parents never defined it nor anyone else before, the love I portrayed for classmates was simply to cover my past and my real dull mind. Whenever I hear people saying that someone in their friend group is like the mother of the group, I view them as a scary and to be avoided person, even knowing this is not what they mean, I am not aware of any other definition for any parent. I am and always have been very thankful to have a sibling that was there even though we only ever really talked a few times.
"Ugh, we don't have this kind of time!" Rin paces once more in frustration.
"Rin..." no, I can't tell her, she needs to realize by herself. From what I can tell, she still isn't willing to accept a betrayal, perhaps they are so close it is simply too painful unless there is undeniable proof right in front of her. This could be the reason we are going after Hester so hurridly.
Not wanting to stick into Rin's mind any longer, I turn and kneel beside Aegis, feeling the warm, smooth, honey, streams of what must be air or something I cannot comprehend.
"Aegis, can I ask you a question?" he doesn't move at all, his muscles at ease and eyes closed in concentration, brows bent in determination.
"Go ahead," he says in a tranquil voice.
"Alright, well...I was wondering if it would ever be at all possible way for a Human to gain the same powers as a Luzumi." at this his eyes open and swivel to me.
"Hmm, good question Claire. I would not doubt that if you did some great service to the Earth and learned all we know of it there would be a way, but it would take much time as we live longer than Humans and thus can gain more knowledge. Why do you ask?" My awe returns watching as Phoenix's skin gains more of its colour back each second.
