The next time someone tells me, 'it will be fun, just something to do to relax' I'm going to hit them. As I duck behind a low wall a spat of gunfire riddles the area I had previously been standing. Maybe I will in fact shoot them. More gunfire sounds and a bullet ricochets off the top of the wall above my head. In both knees and both elbows. I continue to refine my plan for the next miserable person who said those cursed words to me as I crawl along the side of the wall.
Let's rewind for a minute,
Six Hours Earlier
I snicker as I turn the page in my book. It had been a good purchase. Interesting enough that I was able to completely tune out the annoying shouts and squeals of my classmates as the forn... frolicked about the school yard. It wasn't that I hated the other kids in my year, it was rather that I found other things, namely just about anything else, more interesting than their activities. On the bright side since half of them had developed an amazing talent for drawing the aggro of the teachers, buy just breathing in some cases, I could get away with quickly finishing all my work and then reading a book with not even a frown from the adults supervising our 'learning'.
"Rei, get." On instinct I snap my book closed and roll to the side to avoid the tackle of the beautiful girl. Mao goes sailing past and into the arms of the waiting Shiro as was the usual. I stand up and roll my shoulders before tucking my book away as the school bell rings indicating the start of the next round of classes.
"You should stop doing the Mao, it is not elegant for a girl to pounce on people like that," I say while ignoring the glare Shiro directs at me, because he'd be far happier if Mao was attempting to pounce on him.
"No, Rei should be a considerate girlfriend and just let me catch you."
"No, for one I'm a boy, for two you'd squash me."
"Mah, Rei, so mean."
"Meh." I shrug and head off to class ignoring the muttering that trails behind me with the ease of long practice. I settle into my seat do my work efficiently and then go back to my book, in a three-time repeat cycle to finish out the final classes for the day and then sneak out the side entrance of the school while Mao is distracted and Shiro is being lectured by the teacher.
I'm half way home when I pause to look at the sign out the front of the newly opened store. "DDVR capsule gaming, a more immersive experience" I read and then shrug. I'd heard that the tech was developed didn't think it was to the extent of internet café equivalency yet but who knew.
"Found." Before I can dodge two hands clamp onto my arm and I'm pulled into the store.
"Didn't I leave you at school?" I ask as Mao drags me two the registration desk with Shiro trailing behind.
"So mean, where going to try this, it's been ages since we played together. Come on it will be fun." Before I get the chance to protest I'm dragged into the shady back area of the store and stuffed into a capsule. Several other capsules in the room seem to already be in use so I don't feel anything is wrong until bands spring out and latch me in place. As the capsule lid closes the door to room is kicked open and Shiro yanks Mao back out of danger. Then the lid clicks shut and a strap latches around my head constricting until my conscious fades away.As I come back to awareness I'm lying on the floor in a shabby room with broken windows and a rusty door.

Wait to be rescued"None of the above, let's talk to the captors" I mutter as I clamber to me feet. I note absently that I am wearing a dress. But since it was not outside the norm for my mum to dress me as a girl since I was the youngest of five boys and she really wanted a girl. I personally didn't care since the clothes had nothing to do with my gender. I walk over to the door and knock.
"Excuse me, um I think I hit my head and I don't remember where I am?"The door swings open as I speak and a portly man stands in it sneering. "poor little rich girl wants to cry to...." He trails off as I watch him with a faintly puzzled look.
Host is operating outside parameters recalculating."Hello," I say and the man's face goes weirdly blank. "Who are you?"
"You're asking who I am? You're asking who I am?" the man asks getting progressively louder.
"Yes, should I know, I think I hit my head at some point because I don't remember...."
"Your joking."
"No, sorry that I forgot you." Not really since you remind me of those characters in fiction that are meant to be forgettable.
"Well how about a little consideration and I'll answer all your questions" the man says as he reaches for me.Host would you like to

flirtAre you drunk? On instinct I grab the out stretched hand and twist it around as my foot slides between his legs tossing him into the room where he smacks his head on the table and drops to the ground and doesn't move. Hmm, well they do say that you should practice until it becomes instinct and Mao was certainly good conditioning, but who do i question now?
Host operating outside parameters recalculating
God this thing sounds like an old GPS. I shrug as I close the door to the room I had been in. might as well let him rest while I try to figure out what the hell is going on.
Answer, host has been added to the Mothers conglomerate to act as one of the predictable side characters.
"So I'm meant to be a cannon fodder mob, neatly pigeonholed into a nice package such as stalking horse or whatever?"
Terminology unknown accessing dictionary."Are you sure your part of an advance VR system?" I ask as I move through what seemed to be a warehouse. How cliché.
I am system 365 designed to accurately assess personalities to appropriate place characters within the story.
"Your whole role in life is to pigeonhole people? This will likely be disappointing for you then," I murmur as I reach the side door of the building.
According to host parameters you should confront the kidnappers in the main room.
"Why?"
So as to enter the struggle to be the protagonist.
"Boring. Let's not." As I slide out the side door that some moron had failed to lock a wave of dizziness engulfs me and all the memories associated with the body come rushing back.I was currently Rayne Messinan the youngest child of the prestigious Messinan Family who were not only from old money, but had a significant presence in the business world. As their where no females in my family it was tradition for the youngest child to stand as the female representative of the family for social occasions. Such children were also often used for political marriages. There was no particular feeling on same sex relationships in this world and the original character was supposed to fall in love with some rich executive heir and create havoc in a struggle to be the first wife. The kidnapping, had been about a ransom that his parents where not planning to pay as they were planning to adopt a real girl in his place and marry her off to have children with said executive since the blood children would create a stronger tie.
Host, now has relevant information please join the....."This story is so bad, let's pretend we never heard it." I mutter as I continue into the alley and head down the side of the warehouse.
Host is operating outside parameters recalcu...recallc....re...Beeeeeeep. Just like the old GPS my family had used on our last holiday it seemed the forcing the system to recalculate so often in a short period of time had temporarily fried it. That's good it was starting to get annoying.
