As I look at the kraken, I notice a distinct protrusion between its head that it seemed to directly shield from any of the gun shots fired by the crewman. Shots aimed at other places where basically ignored but it was definitely guarding the node on its head. Well a good as place as any. Now how to get to it?

A swish sound from overhead and I glance up to see silver airship pass overhead as a black shadow falls towards the deck. Between one moment and the next a man dressed in a black military uniform lands on the deck. His short blue hair is a little windswept from the drop but is neatly obscured as he resettles his hat and then draws his sword. Another man and a woman similarly dressed drop onto the deck behind him and neatly pin down two tentacles while the blue haired man leaps forward and severs the front half of a tentacle entirely.

Ah? Wait if the dice it up like that the ships going to be covered in blood, who knows how long that will take to get out. As a result of the efforts from the three men who could only be royal enforces the Kraken was now entirely focused on them. As a result, the Kraken leant further over the ship bring the node on its head in line with the crows next on the ship. Well was it not want not, I guess? I leap lightly off the railing to grab onto the net leading to the crow's nest halfway up.

"Rayne?" My father yells as he notices me but is almost caught by a flailing limb from the distraction. A glance shows Derek giving him a shake as he indicates to pay attention to the monster.

I climb quickly to the top and swing in. I'm at eye level with the Kraken but it is still distracted by the enforces as they continue to slice and cut at the limbs. Why is there no watchman? Come to think of it there is meant to be someone in this to keep an eye out for things, but it seems the Kraken was only noticed after it had latched onto the ship. Hmm.

I sweep my eyes around the small nest and frown at small metal ball. It was about the size of an apple but was covered in little holes. Reminiscent of a dog treat toy. However inside seemed to be a series of small sachets and it produced a coppery and herbal scent. As I pick it up the Kraken groans. Even despite the damage being done by others something seems to irresistibly attract its attention to me. I quickly tuck the ball into my pocket and re-draw my sword. The Kraken was now sprawled across the ship and looking up at me.

"Well without further ado." I leap over the railing and land on its face. Footing is a little slippery from the feathers but hurray for swordsman ship balance. With a couple of quick steps, I stand directly between its eyes and thrust the sword down into the node.

The blade sinks in and the Kraken screeches it begins to shake from side to side and I start to lose my balance. "Can't you just die already?" I grab the end on my sword and swing around it with the force of the thrashes twisting it in the wound before I swing up and kick down directly on the hilt. The blade sinks all the way in, and the Kraken stiffens. All the colours in the Kraken's feathers bleed away until the entire creature becomes completely white and drops to the deck. As it falls the crewmen yelp and dive out of the way.
