A poem to my Filipino friend Cathy, who left the US because of her estranged Caucasian husband and adopted daughter.
She refused to listen to me because I was younger,
She refused to listen because she taught there were ethnicity issues.
- One that was upper class and superior,
- While the other, lower class and hard up.
- And that's where we view things differently:
- For I was raised as in the US and learned how to fight without giving up.
So, I wish she could have been tough like me,
But that wasn't easy to see.
I wouldn't know how he hurt her,
But I knew she could have fought back.
She always thought every other person was out to get her because she was Brown
How I frowned at that.
That is what she believed, and there's not much I could do.
You can't change a person's thinking
Or outlook for that matter.
I think it's based on how you viewed society around you.
It's how you, the individual, were brought up.
Wish I could change the story back to how it started.
She should have sensed he was evil the first time they met.
She didn't need to go through all the drama in her life
And now I don't know how to contact her.
And so wherever you are Cathy Turk, I wish you the best!
