"So," Thomas started as he and Reynolds walked side by side towards Charles' dorm. "You still have a thing for my boyfriend, huh?" Reynolds shook his head profusely, already preparing an argument. "James, I see the way you look at him, it's pretty obvious."
James sighed, shoving his hands in his pocket. "I'm not going to take him from you, not that he'd even go with me if I tried," Reynolds chuckled bitterly, shaking his head. "You treat him good, Jefferson. That's more than I ever did."
"So Mr. Grinch does have a heart I see?" Thomas asked, elbowing James slightly.
"No," James shrugged, glancing up at Thomas for a second. "I don't think I have a heart, to be entirely honest. The only person I've ever loved is Alex, and I fucked up my chance. You've caught a good one, Thomas. I wouldn't let him go," James said sincerely, giving Thomas a small smile. A smile that didn't seem forced, nor malicious or cocky like his smirks usually tended to be.
"I don't plan to," Thomas stated, nodding. "I'm sorry you made so many mistakes, Reynolds. You don't seem completely evil."
"Don't worry, I am," James said as they approached Lee's dorm. "I mean, everything I've done has been my fault. And I'm not looking for sympathy or forgiveness, but Thomas, could you tell Maria I'm sorry?" Thomas raised an eyebrow, taken aback by the request. "I just can't help but hate myself for taking out my anger on her, I really am sorry."
Thomas gave Reynolds a once-over, the light he saw him in changing slightly. "I'll be sure to tell her that."
"Thanks," James mumbled, rapping on Charles' door loudly, staring at it as if he was trying to force it open with his eyes. "Open up, Lee!" He shouted, receiving no answer. James pounded on the door once more, each knock demanding entry as his knuckles collided with the hard wooden surface. Before James could knock a third time, the door opened timidly, a small, auburn haired man behind it. "Where's your boyfriend, Samuel?"
"I-I..." From the looks of him, Sam looked like he hadn't slept in days, with the dark circles lining his eyes and the unruliness of his hair, he looked more than distraught. Tear tracks covered his pale face, and a deep frown tugged at his lips. "I don't know, he left... a-and I don't think he's my boyfriend anymore."
"Where did he go?" James growled, towering over the already shaken up young man. Thomas pulled him back, not wanting him to scare Sam too much.
"What happened?" Sam broke into tears, covering his face in his hands. Thomas instinctively wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close and rubbing his back. James stood awkwardly, unsure of what to do, staring at Thomas and Sam. "You're okay," Thomas shushed him.
"He broke up with me," Sam choked out, burying his face in Thomas' chest. The two didn't know each other, but Sam needed comfort, and with Thomas' natural comforting nature, it worked. "He said he only dated me so I-I would write that pamphlet for him and then he left. I'm so sorry."
"Do you have any idea where he went?" James asked softly, trying his hardest not to scare Sam.
Samuel shook his head, "I have no idea, but I doubt he's coming back," Thomas glanced up at James, sighing. It wasn't uncommon for Lee to skip town, he disappeared for a year in high school, no one could track him down.
"James, could you take care of Sam?" Thomas asked, wanting to get back to the others. James looked stunned, his eyes darting from Thomas to Sam, then back to Thomas. "Please? I really need to get back to my boyfriends."
James gulped, mumbling a "u-um sure," before opening his arms, welcoming Samuel into them. He hesitantly rubbed the crying man's back, mouthing "what do I do?" to Thomas. James wasn't the most affectionate of people, and he sure as hell didn't know how to console a crying person. Thomas shrugged, pulling out his phone, looking down at the several worried text messages from Alex, telling him John woke up and that both of them want him to come back.
"You can do it James," Thomas said, almost as if he was trying to convince himself as he glanced reluctantly at James, who was awkwardly holding Sam, who didn't seem to care that Reynolds was so confused, he had his face buried in the taller man's chest, crying softly. "I've gotta go, just hold him, he'll be okay," Thomas waved a small goodbye to James, starting to head back in the direction of the Schuyler's before James stopped him.
"Thomas," James stated, absentmindedly running his fingers through Sam's hair. Thomas turned back, quirking an eyebrow. "I'll take care of the rumors and Sam, just make sure everything is okay between you, Alex, and John. Okay?"
Thomas smiled before giving a small nod before starting to sprint back to the others, eager to get to his boyfriends. Eager to tell that it was over.
The Reynolds Pamphlet was close to being over, and Thomas couldn't be happier.
